Tamil Director SS Stanley Passes Away At 57

Tamil actor and director SS Stanley has died at the age of 57. His untimely death has shocked his well-wishers and fans.

Born on December 14, 1957, Stanley began his career in Kollywood by assisting veteran filmmakers like Mahendran and Sasi. After working for 12 years as an assistant to many filmmakers, he made his directorial debut with April Maadhathil. It was a college love story which starred Srikanth and Sneha. He then directed Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan, which starred Dhanush.

Stanley collaborated with Srikanth in two other movies Mercury Pookkal. His last directorial movie was Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai, way back in 2006.

Later, Stanley started acting in movies and notably acted in Periyar.

In 2015, he wanted to make a movie called Adam's Apple for AR Murugadoss's production house in which Vaibhav and Andrea Jeremiah in the leads. However, the project did not materialise.

Condolence Pour In

Noted journalist and critic Sreedhar Pillai, in a post on X, wrote: "Director and actor #SSStanley (60) passed away. He had directed feel-good films like April Maadhadhil, Pudhukottayilirundhu Saravanan, Mercury Pookal and acted in supporting roles in Sarkar, Maharaja, Aandavan Kattalai and few others. #RIP."

Movie influencer Rajasekar wrote: "April Maadhadhil, Pudhukottayilirundhu Saravanan, Mercury Pookal director #SSStanley passes away. May his soul rest in peace 🙏. He also acted in films like Sarkar, Maharaja, Aandavan Kattalai, Raavanan, Kadugu, Bommai Nayagi etc.,"

A fan wrote: "April Madhathil Director/Actor #SSStanley passed away in Chennai..Shocking.. May his soul RIP!"

Ajith's Good Bad Ugly Rocks At Box Office

In other news, Ajith Kumar's newly-released movie Good Bad Ugly has set the box office on fire. The movie, which was released on April 10, has made over Rs 100 crore (nett) in six days. Thus, helping the actor to bounce back after Vidaamuyarchi failed to set collection centre on fire.

The Tamil New Year holiday weekend helped the movie sustain the momentum.
