Lagaan

Ashutosh Gowariker's 2001 historical sports drama remains an iconic example of patriotic cinema in India. The film marked the launch of Aamir Khan Productions, with the actor portraying Bhuvan, a young villager who unites his community to challenge the British Raj's imposition of exorbitant lagaan (taxes) during pre-Independence India. He assembles a cricket team to compete against a professional British side, with the stakes being the waiver of the lagaan. Chak De! India
