Raid 2 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh Deliver a Gripping Political Showdown

Raid 2 Movie Review: Ajay Devgn returns in full form as the unflinching Income Tax officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2, taking the fight against corruption to another level. Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, the sequel pits Devgn's upright officer against Riteish Deshmukh's sinister and power-hungry politician Dadabhai in a tense, slow-burning thriller that keeps viewers hooked.

The film opens with a bang, quickly setting the stage for a clash of ideologies. Much like its 2018 predecessor, Raid 2 dives deep into the murky world of black money, deceit, and bureaucratic corruption-but this time, the stakes are higher, and the face-off more personal.

Performances That Elevate

Ajay Devgn brings his signature stoicism and intensity to the role, commanding every frame with a calm, calculating presence. However, it's Riteish Deshmukh who surprises and impresses with his nuanced performance as a corrupt politician masking his greed with a veneer of humility. His silences speak volumes, and his villainy is chillingly believable.

Saurabh Shukla, returning as Tau Ji, gets a satisfying continuation of his arc from the first film. His disdain for Amay slowly melts into reluctant admiration-a journey portrayed with great finesse. Amit Sial stands out as a morally grey officer on Devgn's team, and his performance is both subtle and impactful. Vaani Kapoor, though graceful, suffers from a lack of depth in her role, which feels more decorative than essential.

What Works

The story doesn't waste time and gets into the action almost immediately.

The first half is gripping, with a tight screenplay and high tension.

The film keeps the audience guessing about the stash of black money-gold, cash, immovable assets, and more.

Dialogues are sharp and impactful, with several powerful courtroom and face-off moments.

The background score adds to the mood, especially in the final 30 minutes which packs a punch.

What Falls Short

The second half feels familiar and occasionally drags, mirroring the original too closely.

Songs and some early sequences feel skippable.

The screenplay stumbles toward the end with a few predictable plot turns.

Some good actors, including Vaani and even Saurabh Shukla to an extent, are underused.

Twitter Reactions: Mixed but Engaged

Cinehub called it "strictly decent" and pointed to weak execution in the second half but praised Riteish Deshmukh's performance.

Another review rated it 3.5/5, calling it "thrilling, gritty, and dialogue-heavy," appreciating the performances, especially the climactic showdown and smart writing.

Verdict:

Raid 2 lives up to the legacy of its predecessor in parts. While it does feel a bit stretched in the latter half, the powerful performances, especially from Ajay Devgn and Riteish Deshmukh, and the high-stakes narrative keep it engaging. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it certainly rolls forward with enough grit and fire to satisfy fans of the franchise.

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
