Pratik Gandhi Urges Viewers To Judge ‘Phule’ After Watching Full Film, Not Just The Trailer

Actor Pratik Gandhi has expressed his dissatisfaction with the postponed release of Phule, which was originally scheduled to open in theaters on April 11-the 197th anniversary of the birth of the social reformer he plays, Jyotirao Govindrao Phule. However, because of growing opposition from some Brahmin communities after the trailer was released, the release has now been rescheduled for April 25.

Gandhi told PTI that while on a movie shoot, he was disappointed to hear about the two-week delay. The main reason it was distressing was that April 11 would have been a historic release date.It would have been symbolic for the movie to be released on the anniversary of Phule's birth, he said. Nevertheless, he said he hoped the postponement would ultimately be advantageous.

On April 7, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) awarded the Ananth Mahadevan-directed movie a "U" certificate. The CBFC, however, called for a number of changes, such as changing the phrase "3,000 saal purani ghulami" to "kai saal purani ghulami" and replacing words like "Mang," "Mahar," and "Peshwai." Mahadevan claims that all adjustments were made appropriately.

Following the trailer's release on April 10, the controversy grew more intense. According to some Brahmin community members, the movie portrayed their group in an inaccurate manner. In response, Gandhi advised them not to base their judgments only on the trailer. "While I can appreciate their worries, I ask that everyone hold off until the entire movie is released. "Lines are presented out of context in the trailer," he said.

He went on to say that while some of the dialogue was toned down and the messaging changed to conform to the CBFC, the core of the movie is still there.

The team had complied with all CBFC regulations, according to Director Mahadevan, who also called the controversy "unnecessary." According to him, the release was delayed primarily to prevent more criticism and give the controversy time to subside.

Dancing Shiva Films and Kingsmen Productions are the producers of Phule, which also features Patralekhaa as Savitribai Phule. Zee Studios is in charge of the film's theatrical distribution. Gandhi ended by expressing his eagerness to see the finished film.
