Param Sundari Box Office Collection Day 2: Sidharth Malhotra-Janhvi Kapoor's Film To Enter 50 crore Club Soon

Bollywood's latest rom-com, "Param Sundari," directed by Tushar Jalota, hit theatres on August 29. The film has garnered attention for its music and style, drawing comparisons to Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express." Produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, the movie features Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. Param Sundari's Box Office Performance

On day 2, Param Sundari registered a strong ₹9 crore net collection, pushing its two-day total to approximately ₹16.25 crore. according to Sacnilk.

The film saw an impressive response in South Indian markets, with occupancy rates of 40.75% in Bengaluru, 36.50% in Chennai, and 28.25% in Hyderabad. In comparison, northern circuits recorded moderate turnout, including 18.50% in NCR, 20% in Jaipur, and 16.25% in Mumbai.

On its opening day in India, Param Sundari registered a strong ₹7.25 crore net collection.

Cast Salaries and Production Budget

The film reportedly had a mid-range budget of approximately ₹50 crore, though this figure hasn't been officially confirmed by the producers. Sidharth Malhotra played the male lead role of a Punjabi boy and was reportedly paid around ₹12 crore, making him the highest-paid actor in the cast according to Filmibeat. Janhvi Kapoor received approximately ₹5 crore for her role.

Veteran actor Sanjay Kapoor was reportedly compensated with ₹50 lakh for his participation in the film. Manjot Singh, who recently appeared in "Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video," earned around ₹25 lakh for his role in "Param Sundari."
Audience Reception and Comparisons

Evening and night screenings attracted more viewers compared to morning shows, particularly in metropolitan areas. For Janhvi Kapoor, "Param Sundari" marked her second-highest opening after "Ulajh," which earned ₹9.07 crore on its first day. However, for Sidharth Malhotra, it didn't make it to his top ten openings; his highest is still "Ek Villain," which grossed ₹105.76 crore.
Controversies Surrounding Param Sundari

Before its release, "Param Sundari" faced several controversies. Some Malayali social media users accused the film of misrepresenting Kerala and Malayalam culture. Janhvi Kapoor's portrayal was criticised for an inauthentic accent and characterisation that relied on stereotypes like jasmine flowers and Mohiniyattam dances.

Additionally, the song "Danger" faced allegations of plagiarising a Pakistani track titled "Laal Suit." Instagram removed a video by singer Pavithra Menon questioning the casting due to a copyright complaint from the filmmakers. Furthermore, The Watchdog Foundation claimed that a romantic scene shot in a church offended Christian sentiments.

The film's journey has been eventful both at the box office and amidst controversies. Despite these challenges, it continues to draw audiences intrigued by its music and style reminiscent of popular Bollywood hits.
