Pandit Jasraj’s Wife Passes Madhura Away At 86

Madhura Pandit Jasraj, the wife of late Pandit Jasraj, died in the early hours of Wednesday, her daughter Durga confirmed.

The spokesperson from Madhura Pandit Jasraj's person confirmed the news in a statement saying, "Madhura Pandit Jasraj (86), wife of late Pandit Jasraj and mother of Durga Jasraj and Shaarang Dev, left for heaven on 25th September in the early hours due to age-related illness at home." She is survived by her children Shaarangdev Pandit, daughter Durga Jasraj, and four grandchildren, Pritam Sharma, family publicist, said in a statement.

The last rites of the deceased will be performed at Oshiwara Crematorium between 4:00 and 4:30 PM on Wednesday. The spokesperson said, "Her mortal remains will leave between 3:30 and 4:00 PM from her home at Shiv-Karan Building, Fisheries University Road, Off Yari Road, Andheri (W), and the last rites will be performed at Oshiwara Crematorium between 4:00 and 4:30 PM on Wednesday, 25th September."

Madhura played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting classical music, particularly through her efforts to document and honor the legacy of her husband, Pandit Jasraj. A legendary figure in Indian music, Pandit Jasraj's career spanned over 80 years, during which he earned numerous accolades, including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan, in recognition of his contributions to Indian classical music. His influence extended beyond India, with students and admirers in countries like the United States and Canada.

Pandit Jasraj began his vocal training at a young age, and his achievements were celebrated with prestigious honors. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1975, the Padma Bhushan in 1990, and the Bharat Ratna Bhimsen Joshi Classical Music Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. In 2014, he received the Marwar Sangeet Ratna Award. In 2000, he was bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian award, for his immense contribution to the world of music.
