Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK) Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Dhanush's Film; Find Out
Actor Dhanush-directed Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam is a coming-of-age romantic comedy film which stars Pavish, Mathew Thomas, Anikha Surendran and Priya Prakash Varrier in the cast.
Venkatesh Menon, Rabiya Khatoon, Ramya Ranganathan, Siddhartha Shankar, Anbu Thasan, Sathish and others are in the cast. The movie has G. V. Prakash Kumar's music, Leon Britto's cinematography and Prasanna GK's editing.

NEEK Story:
The film follows Prabhu (Pavish Narayan), an aspiring chef who seems to have an unfortunate romance with failure. As he grapples with his love life, his journey takes him through an arranged matchmaking process, a one-week trial relationship with his school friend Preethi (Priya Prakash Varrier), and the emotional baggage of his past love, Nila (Anikha Surendran). What follows is a mix of nostalgia, heartbreak, and self-discovery.
Nilavuku En Mel Ennadi Kobam Review
Dhanush explores themes of young love, living in the past, and the stark contrast between financial privilege and emotional fulfillment. While the premise is promising, the film struggles to maintain consistency in storytelling. The emotional moments lack the depth required to make a lasting impact, making it difficult for the audience to fully empathize with the characters.
Performances & Technical Aspects
Mathew Thomas is the scene-stealer, delivering impeccable comic timing and witty one-liners that keep the humor alive. Pavish Narayan is a great find, seamlessly fitting into the role of a love-stricken young man. Among the female leads, Anikha Surendran is efficient, Priya Prakash Varrier is surprisingly good, and Ramya Ranganathan adds a nice touch to the cast. Sarath Kumar's extended cameo plays a crucial role and adds weight to the film.
GV Prakash's music is one of NEEK's biggest strengths. Golden Sparrow is a theatrical moment, and his background score blends a vintage feel with a modern film aesthetic, adding to the movie's charm. Leon Britto's cinematography ensures glossy visuals, giving the film a classy and aesthetically pleasing touch.
The Verdict
NEEK works best as a breezy, fun-filled entertainer. The first half, in particular, is engaging, light, and classy, offering plenty of laughs. However, the film falters in maintaining its momentum, and the emotional depth feels somewhat underwhelming. While it may not be Dhanush's best, it is still a harmless popcorn watch that fans of the rom-com genre will enjoy.
Pros: Glossy visuals, great music, Mathew Thomas' humor, lighthearted first half
Cons: Inconsistent storytelling, lack of emotional depth
What Netizens Say About Dhanush-Starrer
Keerthy Suresh: Just watched #NEEK, What a fresh and light film this is !! Yet again
@dhanushkaraja
sir, you've created something new with your Midas touch. It was so lovely to watch all these actors on screen ! 🤩🥰
#Pavish You remind me of Dhanush sir right from your smile to your actions and even your voice! 😃 What a way to mark your debut ♥️
@mathewthomass__

#PriyaVarrier you were as always pretty 🤗
And not to miss the cutest cameo of
@priyankaamohan
😻🥰 @RsquaredRams you killed it once again with your dance moves🔥

Rajasekar: 3.5 out of 5, director @dhanushkraja is in fine form and has once again delivered a light-hearted fun film after #PaPaandi. D as a director excels in tapping the sensibilities of 2k kids, their take on relationships, breakups and rebound has been authentically portrayed. Also, impressed with D's free flowing comic punchlines sprinkled throughout the film.
There were some loose ends in the first half of the film but the second half was wholesome. #Pavish as #Prabhu is an interesting find, his voice and look reminds us of
@dhanushkraja. Though #MathewThomas is not the protagonist, he brings the roof down in many scenes and steals the show. The chemistry between Pavish and Mathew is what clicks the most on the film, especially their breakup dance is a riot in theaters. Their friendship is funny, relatable and emotional.
Among the girls, #AnikhaSurendran is adequate but #IndhujaRanganathan and #PriyaPrakashVarrier really shine although they have limited screen time . #Rabiya is also quite good.@realsarathkumar as the doting dad emotionally moves us while #SaranyaPonvannan and #Naren represent the modern day middle class parents!
@gvprakash's music is a big plus, the background score is in Raja-ish zone and songs really helped the film to move ahead.
As the tagline says, NEEK is not a unique love story but a routine one with usual cliches and formulae but it entertains, especially in the second half.
LetsCinema: #NEEK is an absolute entertainer from start to finish.
@dhanushkraja
delivers exactly what he promised - a familiar love story told in a refreshingly engaging and delightful way. Go watch it with this weekend with your friends 🤗🙌
Siddharth Srinivas: #NEEK (3.5/5) - Enjoyable and freewheeling. A cheerful, lighthearted entertainer from director @dhanushkraja
who shows that he is in line with today's youth. Glossy visuals, classy setting and a vibrant ensemble cast set it up well and the result is a jolly ride as promised. D has touched themes of young love, living in the memories, rebound, and also on how the rich really don't have everything they need.
#MathewThomas is the show stealer and he grabs the attention with his one liners and timely jokes. Pavish is a good find and he fits in well into the role of the boy torn by his relationships. The film benefits big time from its female cast - Anikha is efficient, Priya Varrier is surprisingly good and Ramya Ranganathan is a nice addition. Liked @realsarathkumar's extended cameo which is the core of the film.
@gvprakash proves that he is the man with the Midas touch - Golden Sparrow on the big screen is a theatre moment, and the other songs are good too. His BGM has vintage vibes to it, unique touch to a very modern film.
#NilavukkuEnmelEnnadiKobam is a film that will suit those who are expecting a harmless entertainer, a good popcorn watch.
DD Neelakandan: What stands out in #Neek is how respectfully the GenZs are shown.
