Met Gala 2024: Alia Bhatt captivates In A Saree; Explore The Celebrities Embracing This Attire Before her

Famous Bollywood star Alia Bhatt caught attention at the Met Gala wearing a saree, a classic Indian outfit. The saree was designed by well-known Indian fashion and jewellery designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, known for blending old-fashioned charm with modern style in his creations.

Her saree is making headlines as it is adorned with a butterfly blouse that showcases ruffled sleeves, along with a 23-foot-long train meticulously embellished with hand-embroidered floral patterns using silk floss, glass beads, and semi-precious gemstones. Her train covered almost the entire green-tinged carpet as she walked up the stairs. Crafting this garment required a total of 1905 man-hours and the efforts of 163 craftsmen and workers. Her saree symbolised the rich heritage of Indian culture on the 'fashion's biggest night.'

Last year, she attended the Met Gala for the first time, wearing a Prabal Gurung couture gown. Now, she's making her red carpet-debut in a saree.

Every year, the Met Gala follows a specific dress code. This year's theme, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,' focuses on reviving old-fashioned styles. The dress code, named 'The Garden of Time,' draws inspiration from a short story written by J.G. Ballard. Following this theme, Alia's outfit was thoughtfully chosen to match.

This isn't the first instance of a celebrity gracing the red carpet in a saree. Natasha Poonawalla also made a statement at the Met Gala in a saree designed by Sabyasachi in collaboration with Schiaparelli.

Last year, Isha Ambani, daughter of Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, paid tribute to Karl Lagerfeld by opting for a black saree gown.

Among international figures, American actress Blake Lively chose a saree-style gown from Chanel, featuring semi-sheer detailing, to embody the Alexander McQueen theme.

Adding to the roster, model and media personality Naomi Campbell stunned in a metallic saree-style gown, a masterpiece from Chanel, at the 2023 Met Gala.

In the same year, American fashion model and TV personality Gigi Hadid wore a sheer gown with saree-like detailing.
