Manjummel Boys: A Phenomenal Journey To The 200 Crore Club In Malayalam Cinema

Manjummel Boys, a film directed by Chidambaram, has set a new record in Malayalam cinema by becoming the first movie to join the 200 crore club. Just 25 days post its release, without much initial fanfare, it has emerged as a historical milestone.

The movie hit theatres on February 22 and has seen massive success, not just in Kerala but beyond. Interestingly, it's achieved significant acclaim in Tamil Nadu, earning the title as the first foreign language film to rake in over 50 crores in the region without a Tamil dub.

Manjummal Boys A Box Office Triumph

In Kerala alone, the film's earnings stand at 60 crores, with 11 crores from Karnataka and a surprising 68 crores from the rest of India. Notably, it's also the first Malayalam film to collect 8 crores in the United States, contributing to its global count surpassing 200 crores.

Despite the remarkable success, indications from theatres suggest a sustained audience interest, speculated to increase post-examination periods and the release of dubbed versions. A unique point of interest is the number of viewers revisiting the cinema to watch the film multiple times, as shared across social media platforms.

Prior to Manjummel Boys, the Malayalam cinema box office record was held by Jude Anthony Joseph's 2018 film about the floods, which gathered 175 crores globally. This recent achievement by Manjummal Boys places it ahead in the race, leaving other notable films like Pulimurugan, Lucifer, and Premam in its wake. Notably, Premam, among the mentioned list, continues to receive positive feedback and performs well across different language markets as well.

Manjummel Boys draws its story from a real incident in 2006, revolving around a trip from Ernakulam to Kodaikanal. The film boasts an ensemble cast including Soubin Shahir, Srinath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathy, Lal Jr., Chanthu Salimkumar, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Deepak Parambol, Khalid Rahman, Arun Kurien, and Vishnu Raghu. Produced under the banner of Parava Films by Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shaun Anthony, Manjummel Boys also features casting by actor Ganapathi, with music composed by Sushin Shyam.

Setting an exemplary footprint in the Malayalam film industry, Manjummel Boys not only surpassed previous box office records but also opened up new avenues for Malayalam cinema in non-native markets without relying on dubbing. The film's widespread acceptance and the eagerness of audiences to view it multiple times underscore its appeal.

As the movie continues to perform well, it sets a promising outlook for future projects within the industry, celebrating success without the usual buzz and proving the power of content. The record numbers from Kerala, Karnataka, other Indian states, and even an international market like the US reflect its wide-reaching impact.

The film undeniably writes a new chapter in the history of Malayalam cinema, bolstered by a truly collaborative effort from the cast and crew, making Manjummel Boys a stand-out project of recent times.
