Ajay Devgn's 'Maidaan' First Review Out

After much delay, Ajay Devgn and Priyamani's 'Maidaan' has finally hit the screens on Friday, April 5. It is a sports drama based on the life of football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.

Directed by Amit Sharma, the movie has two-time Oscar Award winning music director AR Rahman's music, Tushar Kanti Ray and Fyodor Lyass's cinematography and Dev Rao Jadhav and Shahnawaz Mosani's editing.

'Maidaan' Story

Covering the period from 1952 to 1962, the film recounts the remarkable life of Syed Abdul Rahim, a revered football coach who transformed the sport in India. Thanks to his groundbreaking influence, the Indian Football Team earned the moniker "Brazil of Asia" for their adoption of the 4-2-4 formation.

Rahim's unwavering resolve, leadership, and foresight cemented his status as an icon in Indian sports lore. The film vividly portrays the hurdles, sacrifices, and moments of triumph faced by Rahim and the Indian football team as they battled against societal barriers to make their mark on the world stage. Notably, India clinched gold at the 1951 and 1962 Asian Games, with the football team achieving a historic milestone as Asia's first to reach the semi-finals of the 1956 Summer Olympics.

Disappointed with the runtime of #Maidaan, Nowadays it is very difficult to sustain the screenplay of a 3 hour long film, that too a biopic.

Real Box Office: Done watching #Maidaan on the CBFC website. #AjayDevgn delivers an outstanding performance with a diverse and challenging character. Several smoking and football scenes go well with the context and the climax match is the best USP.
