'Leo' Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find It Out From Viewers' Words

Thalapathy Vijay's 'Leo' has hit the screens worldwide on Thursday (October 19). The movie, which has been dubbed into Telugu, is written and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

Kanagaraj had earlier directed Vijay's 'Master' which had turned out to be a successful venture at the box office. Hence, their second collaboration has generated a lot of buzz.

Leo Movie Review: Whats Good, Whats Bad; Find It Out From Viewers Words

The movie has Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the role of antagonist. This is his second South Indian movie after blockbuster 'KGF 2'. Trisha Krishnan has paired up with Vijay in the movie which also has Arjun Sarja, Gautam Vasudev Menon, Mysskin, Priya Anand, and many others in the cast.

Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music for 'Leo'. 'Bloody Sweet' and 'Naa Ready' songs have stuck the chord with the listeners. The film has Manoj Paramahamsa's cinematography and Philomin Raj's editing.

Storyline:

Parthiban (Thalapathy Vijay) lives in Himachal Pradesh with his wife Sathya (Trisha), and their two children, where they peacefully operate a coffee shop. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he becomes a local hero due to a courageous act, attracting the attention of Antony Das (Sanjay Dutt) and Harold Das (Arjun).

They suspect him of being their estranged relative, Leo Das. Who is Parthiban, and what is his connection to Leo Das? Why is Antony pursuing Parthiban and his family? Can Parthiban overcome the challenges that lie ahead? All these mysteries and the LCU connection unravel in 'Leo.'

'Leo' Review

The first half is engaging but the writing is not up to the mark in the second half. The hyena encounter and the subsequent family drama immerse us in Parthiban's world. The film unfolds without any haste, focusing on meticulously building the characters and the protagonist's environment. The movie reaches its zenith during the cafe brawl scene.

The second half of a film often determines its overall impact, and many recent films have struggled with what can be called the second-hour syndrome. Regrettably, 'Leo' also finds itself in this category. What's particularly astonishing is the quality of the writing in the flashback segments.

Vijay shines in his role while Sanjay Dutt and Arjun fail to make much impact due to bad writing. The cinematography is fine and Anirudh's background works in parts. Check out what the audience say about the Vijay-starrer:

Sumit Kadel: #Leo is another Triumph for Tamil Film Industry.

This #LokeshKanagaraj Directorial is Exciting - Engaging- Entertaining. First Half is Superb with several brilliant high points [ Cafe Action Scene, Vijay's Entry & Interval Block ].. Second half is also action packed, bit slow but quite engrossing.

Last 20 mins especially the Car Chase Sequence & Climax are the major highlights. Dont miss the last scene which'll get THUNDEROUS RESPONSE from LCU fans .

#ThalapathyVijay delivers a Phenomenal performance, he shines in both emotional & action sequences. Director Lokesh presented him in a way which is a full of MASS & CLASS.

Overall #Leo is a Supreme entertainer which'll break many box office records. In Hindi also it'll do very well despite not releasing in National Chain Multiplexes.

Rohit Jaiswal: BLOCKBUSTER WRITTEN ALL OVER

With Outstanding 1st Half & GOOD 2nd Half #Leo turns out to be a TERRIFIC FILM Overall.....
4 Action scenes and last 20 mins takes over all other negativity from the film, take a bow #LokeshKanagaraj...
#ThalapathyVijay owns LEO, he is absolutely in a mood to DESTROY records.... Destruction GUARANTEED
Other supporting cast adds more spice and strength to the film, brilliant execution, strong action..... Has more than 10 - 12 Clap-worthy scenes....
I agree 2nd half needed 10 mins trimming but its ok....Not that bad as some are saying... Trust me.... Watch it.... You all will like it... I LOVED IT....
#Vijay #Trisha #SanjayDutt #Thalapathy

Venkky Reviews: #Leo Overall A Satisfactory Action Entertainer!

First Half moves at a slower pace and takes its time until the pre-interval which is nicely done. Second Half starts well with Leo Das Intro and Naa Ready but loses steam half way through and picks back up during the pre-climax. LCU Moments are nicely placed. Anirudh again gives unique BGM that works well. Ends up as an alright watch if you lower expectations.
The BGM during the credits scene by Anirudh is absolutely fantastic #Leo
#Leo Average 1st Half!

First 1 hour is pretty slow and flat and the hyena sequence is underwhelming. Howeve, film picks up after a surprise entrance and the bad ass song with a good interval sequence. Technically strong so far. Sets up well. Lot to look forward in the 2nd half!

Rating: 2.75/5

Ramesh Bala: #LEO [3.25/5] : A good action thriller/entertainer..
Familiar story..
#ThalapathyVijay holds the show.. 👍
#SanjayDutt and #Arjun are terrific..
Action sequences are well choreographed..
#Ani music is OK!
#LCU connect is forced..
Not #Loki 's Best work..
You can watch it once!

Haricharan Pudipeddi: Cafe fight in #Leo. Easily, the most tense action sequence ever in a #ThalapathyVijay film. The way it's built to the explosive action point is just amazing. And Vijay holds that scene more convincingly than you can even imagine.
#Leo opens with tribute card to 'A History of Violence'
#Leo is a big, big a step up for Lokesh after Master with #ThalapathyVijay. He delivers as expected and manages to entertain in a big way. The second half does dip in tone and mood but there's quite a few moments to keep you hooked. Loved the crossover and the film really scores on the action front.
Always cute to see #ThalapathyVijay mouthing dialogues in Hindi 🤩
#Leo at interval. If this isn't Lokesh's peak, I don't know what can be. Loved how he slowly builds Leo into a ticking time bomb that reaches a great high by the interval. Two excellent action stretches and some smart character intros. Total banger of first half 🔥

M9 Rating: 2.25/5

#Leo manages to keep you hooked during first half with its action, BGM and visuals. But derails in the second hafl and doesn't recover. It seems like a forced addition to the hyped #LCU
#Leo's second half becomes tedious with Sanjay Dutt's arrival. Herold Das is underutilized, and action also lack the quality of the first half. It's a one-time watch with right expectations. Overall, #Leo is the weakest entry in the LCU.

Sanil Dev Kundoor: An absolutely engaging and flawless first half, setting up the entire plot and premise of the story. An absolute delight to watch and outstanding execution, a treat and throat tearing outing.

A contentful second half with Loki's template, finishing all the plot points explored in the first 2 acts.
All the positives are to be witnessed in the theatre, the staging and CGI.
A certain negative would be establishment of certain characters and vital equations between characters which could have bridged the emotional conflict between characters.
A technically sound movie worthy of its hype and delivered beyond expectation. Let LCU be a dessert and not the main course. LCU will breath 🔥 when it's ready.
Thalapathy Vijay🦁has delivered a career best performance and it would be an understatement if I said he was just excellent.
Anirudh as always a monster at amplifying everything.
A Lokesh Kanagaraj 'MASTER'piece. 👑

Pradheep Deep: A performance oriented movie. People who want to see only LCU or vikram based screenplay will get disappoint. Screen play, CG and fight sequence are at different level. I am not a Vijay fan. But I will give 5 stars for Vijay's performance, lokesh screen play and ani's music.
Second time watchable

Sen Kumar: Best action movie after KGF. Casting awesome Trisha, Vijay all superb.. Flashback story is not convincing.. history of violence movie keeps the story simple and engaging but in this Tamil cinema masala and mass hero templates was added which is bit disappointing in Lokesh movie..

#Leo Review - Forced Entry Into LCU

Manobala Vijayabalan: Tried to be a lion🦁 but ended up as a cat🐈. Despite a promising premise and some commendable efforts from Joseph Vijay and cast, the end result is a disappointment. Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo fails to live up to the expectations or unnecessary hype. Also, the film does not maintain a consistent level of engagement, leading to moments of boredom that detract from the overall viewing experience. The film is no where near Vikram or Kaithi, it is the weakest in Lokesh career. A Mediocre Effort.

Jason: #Leo - Lengthy and Tiring! Too much violence and bloodshed with Average First half with Unwanted scenes in the second half. mainstream commercial template with cringe scenes which was unnecessary.
A Predictable commercial movie which was unexpected from
@Dir_Lokesh
Rating - 2.5/5
#Leo Story - Sanjay Dutt kills his own daughter and Vijay doesn't like this and comes out of the Gang. He lives a peaceful life in kashmir with his family and his past comes back when sanjay Dutt gang crosses the line with him again. Vijay will have many smoking scenes.
No cameo of any star! One vikram reference will be there that's all 👍

Pani Puri: #Leo = HISTORY OF VIOLENCE

ONLY FLASHBACK EPISODE CHANGED

Positives:
👉#ThalapathyVijay
👉First Half
👉#AnirudhRavichander BGM

Negatives:
👉Second Half Big Let Down
👉Zero Story
👉Forced #LCU Connect

Good first half!

👉#ThalapathyVijay𓃵 Performance
👉Anirudh's BGM is next level
👉Interval sequence

On the contrary, there is not much story in first half but still #LokeshKanagaraj keeps us engaged. If 2nd half maintains the same tempo, it will be a blockbuster!

Spoiler alert- a very small LCU connection in 1st half.

Karthik: #Leo #LeoReview Fans, lower your expectations. You may like it.

Positive:

1. Cafe fight (I would say equal to John Wick or Nobody)
2. Making, camera work and Richness
3. BGM

Negative:

1. Weak writing in the 2nd half kills the movie.
2. It needs at least 15-20 mins cut in 2nd half
3. Unnecessary bad languages
4. Cut the cringe/forced LCU Bs in the end.
4. No comedy (except #Superstar song in the climax, and #ThalapathiVijay expression is priceless, whole theater was laughing first time in whole movie).

Umair Sandhu: Review #Leo : it's an out and out #Vijay flick, in which he leads the way from the very start. Despite the film having a simple plot, it has been garnished with engrossing drama and action stunningly. One can find the right mix of tension, action, emotion under one roof.
3.5/5⭐

First Review : #Leo is a paisa vasool entertainer and rests on #LokeshKanagaraj's expert direction, action and #Vijay starry presence. #Vijay with his massy avatar, he impresses one and all. His look is quite dashing, his action top-class. #SanjayDutt acts brilliantly.

Rajasekar: #Leo - 3.25 out of 5, excellent first half followed by a watchable second half, which gets amplified again by the stupendous action-packed climax and the LCU flavour! It's #ThalapathyVijay show all the way who anchors the film with his broad shoulders.
Yes I loved how the film builds up slowly and blasts from one point and goes to vera level peak! #Leo
#Leo first half - The way
@Dir_Lokesh
sketched how
@actorvijay
doesn't want his past to comeback and haunt back his family is the biggest strength of the film. Kudos #ThalapathyVijay for surrendering himself to the character, he roars wherever needed, he plays subtle where it requires. This film will be watched multiple times by movie buffs and fans 💥💥🔥 just for the first half. Hope the momentum continues 🤞
#Leo first half - You guys will scream out loud for most of the action blocks. What a terrific performance by #ThalapathyVijay (his rage is fiery💥💥💥🔥). The staging of action sequences and heroic elevation by
@Dir_Lokesh
are out of the park.
