Kerala Crime Files Season 2 Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Malayalam Series? Find Out
If the first season of Kerala Crime Files felt like a cautious first step into the world of Malayalam web series, Season 2 is where the creators seem to find their groove. This new season doesn't just stick to the usual cop drama formula- it takes its time, digs deep, and pulls you into a quietly gripping investigation.
The story kicks off in Thiruvananthapuram's Kaniyarvila police station, which has just gone through a massive reshuffle after reports of shady links between officers and criminals. Amid the chaos, the cops realise that a fellow officer, Ambili Raju, has gone missing-and not even his family knows where he is. What follows is an investigation that peels back layers of not just the case, but of the characters involved.

What works best here is the mood-there's no hand-holding, no over-explaining. The narrative assumes that you'll catch on, and honestly, that trust in the audience makes it far more engaging. The structure plays with time a little, but not in a confusing way-it actually helps build tension and curiosity.

Directed by Ahammed Khabeer and written by Bahul Ramesh (of Kishkindha Kaandam fame), the show doesn't rely on jump scares or high drama. Instead, it gives us solid character studies. You start to see each suspect not just as a name in a file but as someone with a story, a past, and, sometimes, a burden. The backstory of Ambili Raju, in particular, is fascinating. And yes-dogs play an oddly central role in the narrative, popping up in meaningful ways that you don't expect. Somehow, it just works!
What's Good, What's Bad?
Arjun Radhakrishnan plays Noble, a fresh-faced officer who lands this case on his first real police posting. His journey from naive newcomer to someone who starts seeing the bigger picture is well written, and Arjun pulls it off with subtlety. Aju Varghese (from Season 1) does appear again, but don't worry if you haven't seen the first season-this one stands alone.
What also makes Season 2 stand out is the casting. Indrans and Harishree Ashokan, both better known for their comedy or supporting roles, completely surprise here. Indrans, especially, adds layers to his role as Ambili that stay with you. Their scenes together-quiet, tense, and emotionally charged-are some of the best in the series.
There's something very grounded about the entire show. It's not flashy, and it doesn't try to impress you with over-the-top twists. Instead, it draws you into the investigation one step at a time. And just when you think you've figured it out, it flips the narrative ever so slightly-not to shock, but to shift your focus. That's good writing.
By the end, the 'whodunit' aspect almost takes a backseat to the 'whydunit'. The final moments pack a quiet emotional punch. It's not the kind of ending where you jump off your seat-it's the kind that lingers and makes you think.
Final verdict?
If you're looking for a grounded, smartly written Malayalam crime series that respects your intelligence and builds characters with care, Kerala Crime Files Season 2 is worth your time. It may start slow, but stay with it-it pays off.
