Kasturi Trolls Suriya's Retro; Rakes Up Jyothika's Brihadeshwara Temple Controversy

Actress Kasturi Shankar has mocked Suriya's latest movie Retro and the actor's wife Jyothika over her past comment about the Brihadeeswara temple.

Without naming Suriya, his movie Retro or Jyothika, Kasturi trolled that people should spend money on a good cause rather than making "some" movies.

In a post on X, Kasturi said: "Rather than a hospital instead of a temple...Maybe we could use that budget for a good cause instead of making some movies."

Suriya's Retro has opened to mixed reviews although the movie has made a good business on its release day.

Jyothika's Controversy

A few years ago, Jyothika had landed a in a controversy after she expressed her disappointment over the poor maintenance of a hospital. This forced her to cancel her visit to the famous Brihadeeswara temple.

"I don't think I can say all that I saw. So a request - I have said this in Raatchasi too, Gowtham has said - that you are donating a lot of money to temples, painting it and maintaining it, donating to the temple hundi. Please put the same amount into buildings, schools, hospitals. It's very important. I felt very bad. I didn't go to the temple after seeing the hospital. I think hospitals are as important, schools are as important, so let's donate to them also," the News Minute quoted her as saying in an interview.

This is not the first time where Kasturi had taken potshot at Jyothika. In September 2024, he had slammed Sivakumar family after Karthi's controversial comments went viral over Tirupati laddu.

How Netizens React To Kasturi's Comments?

Responding to Kasturi's latest tweet on Retro, one user said: "U may know the history of rajarajan temple, But anyone knows the history the hospital which she said on the stage. Being a Thanjavurian, I know the hospital's history through the years it's name is Raja mirasudhar hospital in thanjavur which was built in 1870s."

A fan of Suriya criticised her and wrote, "I had respect on you before. Evlo kevalama post a ungakitta expect pannula."

Trolling her, one user asked: "How many hospitals have you built by playing item songs?"

Another netizen asked she reminded that Kashmir Files and Kerala story should not have been made as these films are seen as propaganda movies by the right-wing sympathisers.

A fan of Suriya reminded her about his charity works and said: "If Suriya earns from cinema, he will give some of it. He will give education to the poor people...." Another added: "You are not thinking of destroying Suriya.. but the children who are getting education through him.."

However, some people welcomed her comments. One user commented: "Wow salute to you. Normally from your field, people won't dare say anything like that."

Another added: "Well said. They should walk the talk."
