Kantara 2 Box Office Collection - Day 5: Kannada Version Strong, Tamil Stable; Hindi Slows Down
After a thunderous four-day run at the box office, Rishab Shetty's Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 (also known as Kantara 2) experienced its first weekday drop on Monday. The decline of nearly 50 per cent compared to Sunday was expected, considering the end of the extended holiday weekend. Yet, the film's hold across languages - Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam - suggests that audience interest remains intact, particularly in the southern states.
The Kannada version, unsurprisingly, continued to lead by a wide margin, with theatres in Karnataka recording packed evening and night shows. The version also drew audiences from cities outside the state, proving its pan-India appeal. The Telugu version held decently in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions saw encouraging trends in metro markets. The Hindi version remained modest but steady, with signs of growth in select urban pockets.

The early estimates indicate that the movie has earned over Rs 30 crore on day 5, taking its total collection in India to Rs 255.75 crore (net) while the worldwide collection is nearing Rs 400 crore.
Kannada Version
In the Kannada belt, Kantara 2 clocked an impressive overall occupancy of around 76 per cent on Monday. The film's performance in Mysuru, Tumakuru, and Kundapura stood out, with most night shows running nearly full. In Mysuru, occupancy hovered close to 90 per cent throughout the day, peaking at 99 per cent by night, as per Sacnilk data.
Tumakuru and Kundapura theatres were packed too, recording 93 and 96 per cent occupancy respectively. Bengaluru, the film's biggest market, maintained a steady 76 per cent overall, with the night shows alone reaching as high as 95 per cent. Even smaller cities such as Raichur and Shivamogga, which are often indicators of long-term hold, saw audiences turning up in big numbers. Interestingly, the Kannada version's screenings in Mumbai reported about 23 per cent occupancy - a remarkable feat for a regional-language film.
Telugu Version
The Telugu version, which performed strongly through the weekend, saw a predictable Monday slowdown but held reasonably well with an average occupancy of around 36 per cent. Hyderabad led the chart for the Telugu version with about 38.5 per cent average, touching nearly 60 per cent in night shows. Warangal and Vizag too performed well, with 57 and 42 per cent occupancy respectively, while towns like Mahbubnagar surprised trade trackers with a solid 76 per cent turnout. The dubbed version in Chennai and Bengaluru found a steady trickle of footfall, indicating that the film's appeal transcends language barriers.
Hindi Version
In the Hindi-speaking markets, Kantara 2 had an average Monday, recording an overall 17.67 per cent occupancy. The trend, however, mirrors the slow-burn success of the first film, which grew steadily through word-of-mouth. Among metros, Mumbai and Pune were the best performers, clocking 23 and 26 per cent respectively, with late-night shows seeing marginal improvement. Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow remained on the lower side, though Bengaluru and Hyderabad contributed surprisingly well for a dubbed Hindi version. In the coming days, multiplex circuits are expected to see a gradual rise as audience feedback spreads beyond the southern region.
Tamil Version
The Tamil version of Kantara 2 continued its strong run in Tamil Nadu, particularly in the urban belts. The film recorded an average occupancy of 43 per cent across the state. Chennai led from the front with close to 50 per cent occupancy overall, while Pondicherry saw an extraordinary 70 per cent turnout on a weekday - a clear reflection of how deeply the film's themes resonate in the region. Coimbatore, Dindigul, and Trichy maintained steady numbers with evening and night shows hovering around 50 to 60 per cent. Bengaluru again showed its multilingual pull, with the Tamil version recording as high as 97 per cent occupancy in the night shows.
Malayalam Version
In Kerala, Kantara 2's Malayalam version surprised trade analysts with its resilience. Despite being a dubbed release, it drew good footfalls in major cities, averaging around 40 per cent occupancy statewide. Kochi and Kozhikode led the charts with 44 and 48 per cent respectively, with the late shows performing particularly well. In Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam too, the evening shows witnessed an uptick, pushing the night occupancy to over 60 per cent in several screens. Smaller towns like Thrissur and Alappuzha reported steady weekday trends, which bodes well for the film's second-week performance in Kerala.
Overall, Kantara: A Legend - Chapter 1 displayed remarkable stability on its fifth day, especially for a film that had an extended four-day festive opening. While collections dipped, the occupancy levels across languages confirmed that the movie has struck a chord with audiences nationwide. The Kannada version remains the clear driver of the box office, but the dubbed versions - especially Tamil and Malayalam - have turned into valuable contributors. The film's Hindi version, though off to a slow start, could gain momentum as the week progresses, following the word-of-mouth pattern similar to the first Kantara.
Talking about the business, trade tracker Sumit Kadel, in a post on X, wrote: "#Kantara (Hindi) is facing a crash-like situation on Monday, as business has dropped by around 65% compared to Sunday. As per early estimates, the film is headed towards ₹6.5-7.5 crore nett on Day 5.
Outside Maharashtra, the film is still struggling as the word of mouth is mixed. Gujarat and UP are shockers, as the film didn't pick up even on Saturday and Sunday the way other big South Indian entertainers usually do.
In Karnataka film is performing like a Holiday release even on a working, film should collect 12 Cr + in the state today."
