Kamal Haasan's Indian 3 Fate Hangs In Balance As Netflix Backs Out Of The OTT Deal
The fate of Kamal Haasan and Shankar's ambitious Indian 3 is hung in balance as Netflix has backed out of the project.
Indian 2 Poor Show Backfires

Last year, Indian 2 had hit the screens in July, but failed to set the box office on fire. The negative reviews online had played a spoilsport for the mega-budget flick. Originally planned as a single film, the project was split into two parts due to its lengthy runtime. While Indian 2 was released with a teaser for Indian 3 at the end, the third installment has yet to materialize, with some portions still left to be filmed.
Earlier reports suggested that Shankar was gearing up to shoot the remaining scenes for Indian 3, with Red Giant Pictures stepping in as the producer. However, the latest rumours indicate that Netflix, which had secured the OTT rights for both Indian 2 and Indian 3, has reportedly backed out of the deal following the poor performance of Indian 2.
Netflix Paid A Bomb
The streaming giant had paid a whopping Rs 200 crore for the rights of Indian 2. Additionally, Lyca Productions is said to have decided to shelve the project.
However, there is a mixed response to the rumours of the makers shelving the project. While Kamal Haasan fans wanted to see be released at least on the OTT platform, another section argues that Indian 2 not only failed to live up to expectations but also tarnished the legacy of the original Indian (1996), a cult classic. However, there's still no official confirmation on whether Indian 3 will be abandoned or if another production house will step in to revive the project.
Kamal Haasan reprised his iconic role as Senapathy, a vigilante fighting against corruption in Indian 2. Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, SJ Suryah, Bobby Simha, and the late Vivekh and Manobala were part of the case.
The film, a vigilante action thriller, was co-written by Shankar with B. Jeyamohan, Kabilan Vairamuthu, and Lakshmi Saravana Kumar, and jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies.
As of now, the fate of Indian 3 hangs in the balance. Will it remain an unfinished project, or will it find a new lease of life with a different production team? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for updates!
