Kaalidhar Laapata Movie Review: A Heartwarming Tale of Unlikely Friendship
Madhumita-directed Kaalidhar Laapata is out on Zee5. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Daivik Baghela, Nimrat Kaur and others in the cast.
Kaalidhar Laapata Review
Kaalidhar Laapata is the story of a man named Kaalidhar (played by Abhishek Bachchan) who lives with his two younger brothers, their family, and a sister. He is the kind of person who people keep around only as long as he is useful. The moment they no longer need him, they find a cruel way to abandon him-during a trip to a Kumbh Mela.

This Hindi film is a remake of the Tamil movie KD, with changes to suit the language and setting. Here, Kaalidhar is not an old man but someone in his middle age. He has a child-like innocence, shaky hands, an unsteady walk, and often looks completely lost-except when he's enjoying his favorite food: biryani.
His life takes a turn when he meets Ballu (played beautifully by child actor Daivik Baghela), a smart and mischievous 8-year-old boy who has grown up on the streets after being abandoned as a baby. Ballu has just enough education, thanks to a kind village teacher, to get by. When he meets Kaalidhar, he gives him a new identity: KD. From that moment, their journey together begins.
The film follows this odd pair as they travel through small villages, bustling fairs, and rural landscapes of Madhya Pradesh while being chased by Kaalidhar's family and a man from the local missing persons department (played by Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub) who has been asked to find him.
The real charm of Kaalidhar Laapata lies in this unusual friendship. Ballu, despite being a child, becomes KD's guide and savior. The young actor Daivik Baghela steals the show with his natural performance, infectious smile, and playful energy. His scenes bring warmth and humor to the film.
On the other hand, Abhishek Bachchan as KD doesn't quite leave the same impact. While he tries his best to portray innocence and helplessness, his performance feels a bit shaky in comparison to the young boy's effortless acting.
One thing that may not sit well with everyone is how wise and mature Ballu is shown to be for his age. At times, it feels unbelievable that such deep life advice could come from a kid who is barely 10. Hindi films often fall into this trap of making children sound too grown-up, and this film is no exception.
Nimrat Kaur appears in a brief but sweet role as KD's love interest, while Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub does his best in a role that doesn't give him much to work with.
The music by Amit Trivedi adds a fun and lively touch to the film, blending nicely with the mood of the story.
In the end, Kaalidhar Laapata is a feel-good film about the simple joys of life and the magic of unexpected friendships. While it has its ups and downs, and the story feels stretched in some places, the bond between KD and Ballu makes it worth watching. It's a bittersweet yet hopeful ride that may leave you smiling.
Verdict: A heartwarming but uneven journey-watch it for the child actor's brilliant performance and the message of finding hope in unlikely places.
