Jayam Ravi Responds To Wife Aarti's Remark On Divorce: 'Walked Out Of House With Nothing'

Tamil actor Jayam Ravi, riding high on the success of his films Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2, is facing a challenging personal life as rumors of his impending divorce surfaced in June.

On September 9, he officially announced the dissolution of his marriage with wife Aarti through a social media statement.

In response, Aarti posted her own statement on September 11, expressing that the announcement was made without her "knowledge or consent" and that she felt "blindsided."

Amidst this controversy, Jayam Ravi, while speaking to Hindustan Times, shared his side of the story and thoughts on the future.

When asked why he made the divorce announcement public on September 9, Ravi explained, "I sent Aarti two legal notices in the months before September 9, and she didn't respond to either one of them. I was forced to make the divorce announcement public because there were so many rumours already and I am answerable to my fans. When everyone was talking about it in the media, how could I just sit quietly? I had already started legal proceedings and felt it needed to be addressed."

Addressing Aarti's claims that she and her family were unaware of his desire for a divorce, Ravi refuted them, stating, "That's absolutely not true. Both our families and she and I had a discussion about this together. Then they gave us space, and she and I had a separate conversation and I told her clearly this is what I wanted. So, she and her family were completely aware of this. After that, Aarti's father and I had a conversation about this matter. How can they claim otherwise?"

Although he did not delve into the specifics of the situation, citing privacy, he acknowledged feeling "extremely suffocated after a point."

He said, "You know, when I walked out of the house a few months back, I walked out with nothing. I just took one car. I am a nomad now (smiles)."

Ravi revealed he had relocated to Mumbai but frequently travels to Chennai. He continues to stay connected with his children, Aarav and Ayaan, stating, "I am very much accessible to my children." He also confirmed spending time with his elder son Aarav for his birthday in June.

When asked if he had spoken to his children about the divorce, Ravi said, "Yes, I have. Aarav is 14 years old and he can understand, so I explained the whole situation to him. Ayaan is just eight and too young to understand."
