Janhvi Kapoor's Startling Encounter: First Deepfake Experience At Age 15
Actor Janhvi Kapoor recently shared that she's begun standing up for herself, acknowledging her feelings after years of self-doubt in expressing her strong opinions. Speaking with Film Companion, she revealed a past where she refrained from addressing issues like the circulation of morphed pictures of her during her teenage years, fearing it would be perceived as attention-seeking.

However, Kapoor now confidently asserts that remaining silent was a mistake. She commended Rashmika Mandanna, another actor, for denouncing a viral deepfake of herself on social media. Kapoor admitted feeling somewhat cautious about discussing her experiences due to the context of her background, saying, "I've been a little apologetic about where I come from because there are bigger and tougher things that people have to deal with."
Reflecting on her past, Kapoor highlighted her initial silence regarding the morphed pictures, fearing it would be seen as attention-seeking. She emphasized that only recently has she started standing up for herself and finding her voice. Kapoor admitted that initially, she downplayed her own experiences, feeling they were insignificant compared to others' challenges. This left her without a voice to express her own desires or thoughts.
She expressed, "I didn't even know that I had the right to speak about deepfakes or altered images. I didn't know I could say anything. I applaud Rashmika for standing up." Following the viral deepfake of Rashmika, numerous celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, showed their support for her by condemning the act on social media.
In her upcoming project, Janhvi Kapoor will make her debut in South Indian cinema with "Devara," sharing the screen with Jr NTR. This marks a significant moment for Kapoor, given her mother Sridevi's substantial legacy in the South Indian film industry. The first part of "Devara" is scheduled for release on April 5, 2024.
