Is the release of Rajinikanth's upcoming Tamil movie Coolie postponed? Has the multi-starrer out of Indpendence Day race? These rumours are doing rounds on social media even as the fans eagerly hoping for the movie to hit the screens, next month.

Social media is abuzz with the rumours of unexpected delay of Coolie. Sun Pictures-funded movie is scheduled for release on 14 August and clashing with Junior NTR-Hrithik Roshan's War 2.

However, the makers have not made any announcement on the delay in its release.

IMAX Guidelines Controversy

The recent unveiling of Aamir Khan's poster from the Coolie has sparked excitement among fans. The poster revealed that the film would be available in the IMAX format, which thrilled many. However, this announcement left industry insiders puzzled as IMAX has not yet approved the release of Coolie in their format, Bollywood Hungama reported citing sources.

A trade insider revealed that War 2 and Coolie are both set to release on August 14. Junior NTR and Hrithik Roshan's film has secured an exclusive deal with IMAX, meaning no other Indian film should be shown in IMAX during that time. Despite this, Coolie's posters prominently display the IMAX logo, raising eyebrows within the industry.

Another producer, speaking anonymously, explained that those familiar with IMAX know they have strict guidelines about how their brand is mentioned. Typically, if a film is advertised for IMAX, other formats shouldn't be listed. However, "Coolie's" posters also mention D-Box and 4DX formats. Additionally, the phrase 'Watch it in IMAX' used by "Coolie" might not align with IMAX's standards.

Potential Outcomes for Coolie's Release

A South-based trade source speculated that since the makers of "Coolie" have mentioned an IMAX release, they might already be negotiating with IMAX. However, they shouldn't have announced it prematurely without finalising details. The source suggested two possibilities: either convincing IMAX to approve the release or showing a non-IMAX version in IMAX theatres.

Meanwhile, another producer questioned whether Yash Raj Films would allow such a move given their exclusive deal for "War 2." This situation could lead to significant discussions and decisions in the coming days.
