India's Got Latent: Fresh FIR Registered Against Ranveer Allahbadia, Apoorva Makhija, Samay Raina; Read Detail

A new FIR has been lodged against podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, YouTuber Apoorva Makhija, and comedian Samay Raina. This follows a controversy over remarks made during the "India's Got Latent" roast show. The complaint accuses these influencers of undermining the Indian family system and offending religious sentiments.

The complaint, filed by Sanmati Pandey, highlights Allahbadia's controversial question: "Would you rather watch your parents have s** every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?" Pandey argues that this comment insults religious beliefs by trivialising marriage as a sacred ritual.

Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage

Apoorva Makhija, known as The Rebel Kid, is also criticised for her comments about food habits in Arunachal Pradesh. She allegedly stated, "People of Arunachal Pradesh eat dog meat even though I have never tasted it. I know because my friends eat it. They even eat their pets at times." This remark is said to threaten peace in the Northeastern state.

Samay Raina's involvement as part of the jury and production team is noted in the complaint. He also shared videos on social media related to the show. Additionally, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani is mentioned in the complaint.

Legal Actions and Public Reactions

The National Commission for Women has expressed concern over Allahbadia's remarks. They have summoned him and others linked to the show for a hearing on February 17. The panel stated that these comments violate dignity and respect in a society valuing equality.

The Maharashtra cyber cell has also filed a case under the IT Act. Reports indicate that notices are being sent to at least 30 individuals associated with the show, requiring them to appear before the Cyber Cell to record their statements.

Political Involvement and Apologies

The issue has reached Parliament, with Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanding censorship on OTT platforms due to objectionable comments. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi plans to raise this matter at a House panel meeting.

Amidst this controversy, Allahbadia apologised, stating, "My comment was not appropriate, and not even funny; comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry." He acknowledged his lapse in judgment and admitted it was not cool.

Public Backlash and Support

Allahbadia has lost around 50,000 followers since the controversy began. Several celebrities criticised him for making vulgar remarks without considering societal impact. However, some argue that outrage is selective and law enforcement should focus on crime control instead of targeting Allahbadia after his apology.
