Indian-Origin Rapper Tommy Genesis Slammed For Skimpy Goddess Kali Look, Mocking Christianity In Music Video

Indian-origin rapper Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj, popularly known as Tommy Genesis, is facing significant backlash following the release of her latest music video 'True Blue, which recently went viral.

In the video, she appears styled as a Hindu goddess, covered in blue body paint, adorned with gold jewellery, and wearing a red bindi. She also features a Christian cross as a prop in a manner many have found offensive.

In one particular scene, she is seen licking the cross and holding it near her buttocks.

The imagery has provoked outrage among both Hindu and Christian communities, who have described it as "blasphemy" and accused her of being disrespectful in a bid to attract attention. Some even branded the visuals as a "cheap stunt" aimed at going viral.

Social media users have been quick to condemn Tommy Genesis for the controversial visuals in the 'True Blue' video, accusing her of deliberately provoking religious groups.

One user on X commented, "Her Indian descent makes it very likely that her makeup is deliberately done to hurt Hindu sentiments. Blasphemy (sic)."

Another echoed the sentiment, writing, "Did you not see the cross coming out of her butt? She's hurting everyone's sentiments, maybe on purpose, to go viral. Cheap tactics (sic)."

Many online have described her actions as profoundly disrespectful and believe they were calculated to incite outrage for publicity. "Her new song openly mocks both Hindu and Christian faiths. This is not creativity this is pure disrespect (sic)," an irate user posted.

Tommy Genesis, who holds Canadian citizenship, has not yet issued a response to the criticism.

Born in Vancouver, Canada, Genesis Yasmine Mohanraj-known professionally as Tommy Genesis-has Tamil and Swedish heritage.

She is known for her provocative and avant-garde style, with her music often delving into themes of gender, identity, and sexuality. In previous interviews, she has referred to herself as a "fetish rapper."

In 2016, an international magazine labelled Tommy Genesis as "the internet's most rebellious underground rap queen."
