'Guntur Kaaram' Review: What's Good, What's Bad; Find Out From Viewers' Words

After 14 years, director Trivikram Srinivas is collaborating with Mahesh Babu again for 'Guntur Kaaram'. The duo had earlier delivered hit movies such as 'Athadu' and 'Khaleja'.

The much-hyped Telugu film is releasing on Friday to huge expectations. It is coinciding with the Sankranthi celebrations.

The film has Sreeleela in the female lead with Meenakshi Chaudhary, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Easwari Rao, Murali Sharma, Sunil, Brahmaji, and others in the cast. Thaman S has scored the music for the Telugu flick which has Naveen Nooli's editing and Manoj Paramahamsa and PS Vinod's cinematography.

'Guntur Kaaram' Story:

Vyra Vasundhara (Ramya Krishnan) parted ways with her son, Veera Venkata Ramana (Mahesh Babu), at the age of 10 due to an accident. Fast forward 25 years, she rises to become a Minister. To secure her victory in the upcoming elections, her father, Venkata Swamy (Prakash Raj), seeks Ramana's agreement to sign papers disavowing any connection with his mother, Vasundhara. The unfolding story addresses queries surrounding the accident, Venkata Ramana's response, whether he signs the papers, Vasundhara's actions, and the possibility of their eventual reunion.

'Guntur Kaaram' Review

Mahesh Babu effortlessly embraces his highly anticipated role, showcasing a raw and rugged style complemented by the captivating Guntur dialect. His charismatic energy breathes vitality into every frame, providing an enjoyable experience for his devoted fanbase. The banter and comedic exchanges with Vennela Kishore create genuine moments of laughter.

Prakash Raj, impeccably cast once again in Guntur Kaaram, delivers a commendable performance portraying both the minister and Mahesh Babu's grandfather. The on-screen chemistry between the two adds a significant layer to the film.

However, the film encounters a central weakness in its narrative, with Trivikram falling short in crafting a compelling storyline and a more robust screenplay. Emotional scenes suffer from lackluster writing, impacting the overall engagement.

Guntur Kaaram bears the burden of unnecessary scenes featuring characters contributing little to the overarching plot. The underutilization of talented actors, including Meenakshii Chaudhary, Rahul Ravindran, Jagapathi Babu, Rao Ramesh, and Jayaram, further contributes to the film's shortcomings.

Venky Reviews: A Trivikram style story that is packaged with all commercial elements but none of it makes a solid impact. The movie is solely driven by Mahesh and he is at his best. Kurchi Madatha Petti song and a few entertaining blocks work well. The rest is subpar stuff and the emotional scenes fail to make an impact as the core conflict is silly. A Mahesh Babu One Man Show but all other departments are not up to the mark.
BGM is good in a few scenes but supbar for the most part and feels like a rehash of AVPL at times. Sound Mixing is outright bad.

Trivikram tried to mix AVPL and AD together but it ends up feeling like a replica of the same scenes from those movies. Dialogues are also not at the level we expect.

SSMB is the only one who gave 200% and deserves all the credit for this film #GunturKaaram
The biggest problem with the movie is the story itself. The conflict point is so thin and silly that Trivikram chose to write a big filler romantic thread and unnecessary fights with Jagapathi Babu, Ajay etc whose characters served no purpose. Emotional scenes/drama without a strong conflict feels lifeless.

Rebel: GK is a Mixed bag, Few portions was very good, few wasn't. Mother, Son relationship worked best, Comedy gags was fun. Families will definitely like it.
BGM, Sreleela acting, Guruji prasa, Dubbing sync are minus.
