Fawad Khan’s Aabeer Gulaal To Finally Release In India? Everything We Know So Far

Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's much-talked-about film Aabeer Gulaal has finally hit theatres worldwide today, September 12, but India is not on the release list-at least for now. The romantic comedy, earlier titled Abir Gulaal, marks Fawad Khan's long-awaited return to Indian cinema opposite Vaani Kapoor. His comeback had been uncertain for years following the 2016 Uri terror attack, which led to a ban on Pakistani artists in India.

The film's future in the Indian market became even more doubtful earlier this year after the Pahalgam terror attack, India's subsequent Operation Sindoor, and rising tensions between the two countries. Despite these hurdles, reports now suggest that Aabeer Gulaal could make its way to Indian theatres later this month.

According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, the makers are planning an India release on September 26. A source told the outlet, "Aabeer Gulaal has released today, that is, September 12, across the globe. The team of Indian Stories Limited (UK) have now made the decision to release the film in cinemas in India two weeks from now, on September 26. They are confident of the product and feel that the film, which is a simple and sweet love story, has the potential to attract the audience everywhere, including India. Moreover, no other film is scheduled for a release on September 26 and hence, Aabeer Gulaal will enjoy a solo release in the country."

So far, neither the lead stars nor the production team have issued an official confirmation regarding its Indian release. While fans of Fawad Khan are eager to see him back on Indian screens, opposition is also expected, especially after his remarks on Operation Sindoor. Although Fawad condemned the Pahalgam attack in April, he later described India's retaliatory Operation Sindoor as a "shameful attack," a statement that drew heavy criticism and trolling online.

If Aabeer Gulaal does arrive in Indian theatres on September 26, just two weeks from now, it could mark Fawad Khan's formal Bollywood comeback after nearly a decade. The question is-will audiences welcome him back?
