Exploring The Musical Journey Of Papori Harsh: A Fusion Of Passion, Art And Wellness
In an engaging conversation with OneIndia, Papori Harsh, a versatile singer and performer, shared her inspiring journey from corporate life to becoming a celebrated artist in genres ranging from Sufi and Hindustani classical to jazz and fusion. Interviewed by Shrutee Sarkar, the session delved deep into Papori's transformation, her musical philosophy and her contributions to society through music.
From Corporate Roots to Musical Heights
Papori's journey into the world of music is unconventional. An HR specialist and faculty member at prestigious management institutes for over 15 years, she chose to pursue music just eight years ago. "I was always inclined toward the arts," she says, "but it was only later in life, after exploring various hobbies like painting and baking, that I discovered my true calling in music."

Papori holds credentials as a certified Music & Wellness Coach from Berklee College of Music, Boston, and is a Sangeet Visharad from Prayag Samiti, Allahabad. Under the tutelage of Omkarnath Havaldar in the Kirana Gharana, she continues to deepen her classical training. Her passion for music isn't limited to performance; she's also the founder of The Music Village (TMV), a platform using music to promote wellness and happiness, building communities bonded by a love for melody.

Classical Music: A Foundation for Expression
Papori's foray into Hindustani classical music marked a turning point in her life. She describes it as a doorway to understanding the technical and emotive depths of music. "Classical music is the foundation," she asserts, adding that its richness fuels other genres, including Bollywood and jazz.
, she expressed optimism, noting its growing presence in concerts, festivals, and OTT platforms. While acknowledging challenges in popularizing intricate forms like Badakhyal and Sargam recitations, Papori sees an increasing number of students and global interest as signs of a bright future.

Folk Music: The Soul of Indian Culture
Folk music holds a special place in Papori's heart. Her rendition of "Jugni" exemplifies her affinity for the rawness and emotional depth of folk traditions. "Folk songs are stories of the past, sung from the heart," she says. A self-described "village girl," she draws inspiration from her rural roots and believes that folk music's simplicity and honesty resonate universally.
Fusion and Production: Experimentation and Empowerment
Papori's upcoming show, Dil Hi Toh Hai, is a tribute to legends like Ghalib and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. "Fusion is about blending narratives," she explains, emphasising that experimentation allows her to connect traditional music with contemporary sensibilities.
This concert also marks her debut as a producer. Inspired by artists like Daljit Dosanjh, Papori aims to create immersive experiences for her audience while using her shows to raise funds for underprivileged communities through her trust.
A Message for Aspiring Artists
For young talents struggling to find their footing, Papori advises, "Invest in your talent. There are no shortcuts. Be persistent and strive for excellence." Her journey exemplifies this ethos, proving that with dedication and passion, it's possible to transform a dream into reality.

As she continues to inspire through her music and activism, Papori Harsh stands as a beacon of hope for those seeking to blend art with purpose, making a profound impact on lives through melody and wellness.
