Dude Movie Review: What's Good, What's Bad In Pradeep Ranganathan's Film?

After delivering back-to-back hits, Pradeep Ranganathan is back with his latest movie Dude, which has generated a lot of hype. Directed by Keerthiswaran, the movie has Mamitha Baiju playing the female lead.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, the film also has Neha Shetty, R. Sarathkumar, Hridhu Haroon and Rohini in the cast. It is Keerthiswaran's directorial debut, and Mythri Movie Makers' second Tamil production. Sai Abhyankkar has scored the music, Niketh Bommi has handled the cinematography while Barath Vikraman has done the editing.

Pradeep Ranganathan carries the film with his natural screen presence and effortless comic timing, while Mamitha Baiju matches him with a sincere and grounded performance. Sai Abhyankkar's music adds vibrancy to the proceedings, though the background score occasionally feels overdone. The cinematography is clean and lively, but the editing-especially in the second half-feels abrupt, affecting the film's overall pacing.

While Dude tries to balance humor with emotional depth, it never quite nails either. There are a few genuinely funny scenes and some tender moments, but the film's emotional graph remains flat. Venky Reviews #Dude A Mid Rom-Com with a Fairly Engaging First Half but a Lackluster Second Half!

The film hits all the familiar beats of a typical rom-com. The first half starts off a bit slow but picks up well toward the pre-interval, ending with a well-executed interval block. However, the second half, despite a promising start, quickly falls flat and never recovers.

UnSubtle Indian: Tamil Cinema - The Subtle Art of Selling an Agenda and #Dude adds to the list.

A fairly decent and entertaining first half.
A real poor second half..there are a couple of genuinely written emotional moments but the latter part of second half kills the movie entirely..with a routine bizarre pre-climax to climax sequence.

And the usual suspect - the unnecessary caste equation and it almost feels like the only subject Tamil filmmakers know..and somehow that is written equally worse in this case.

Saddy: Excellent first half. Liked it better than Dragon and love today so far. Music and the lead pair 👌
