Lokesh Kanagaraj's directorial venture, 'Coolie', starring Rajinikanth, garnered ₹194.25 crore in its first four days at the Indian box office, with the Tamil version earning ₹44.5 crore on the opening day; Tamil Nadu saw impressive occupancy rates, while Hindi-speaking markets and Kerala presented a mixed performance.

On Friday, collections remained strong with ₹54.75 crore, showing solid traction across the Tamil and Telugu markets while the Hindi version even recorded a slight growth. However, as the weekend progressed, the numbers started to settle into a steadier rhythm. Saturday's business stood at ₹39.5 crore, and on Sunday, early estimates indicated ₹35 crore, taking the total four-day collection to an outstanding ₹194.25 crore, as per Sacnilk data.

Occupancy trends further underline the film's reach and appeal. On Sunday, the movie recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 63.75 percent, with afternoon and evening shows performing the strongest.

The regional breakdown for the Tamil version reveals the depth of Rajinikanth's hold in Tamil Nadu. Chennai led the charge with an astounding 85 percent occupancy across more than a thousand shows, peaking at 93 percent during the evening screenings. Trichy was another stronghold with 86 percent overall occupancy, maintaining consistency across the day. Coimbatore and Dindigul also registered excellent turnouts, crossing the 80 percent mark, while Pondicherry clocked a healthy 78 percent.

In contrast, the reception in other regions painted a more varied picture. Bengaluru posted a moderate 48 percent occupancy, and Salem hovered around 58 percent. Kerala, however, was underwhelming, with Kochi and Trivandrum recording just 37.5 percent and 27 percent respectively, suggesting the film failed to create the same level of buzz there. The Hindi belt also struggled to match expectations, with Mumbai at 39.5 percent and the National Capital Region dipping to just 24 percent.

The weekend trajectory of Coolie illustrates a typical festive Rajinikanth release pattern-an explosive opening followed by stabilisation in subsequent days. Tamil Nadu has been the bedrock of its success, driving collections and footfalls, while Telugu markets provided a notable boost during the initial days. However, the film's performance in the Hindi-speaking markets and Kerala has been lukewarm, indicating that its box office momentum is heavily reliant on the core South Indian audience base.

With nearly ₹200 crore amassed in just four days, Coolie has already secured its place as one of the biggest Indian openers of 2025. The combination of Rajinikanth's star power and Lokesh Kanagaraj's mass-action storytelling has delivered a blockbuster weekend.

The key challenge for the film in the days ahead will be to maintain steady collections during weekdays and push towards the ₹250 crore mark by the end of its first week. If it manages to sustain its momentum, Coolie could well emerge as another monumental success in Rajinikanth's illustrious career.

Hindi Version and Telugu Version
