The director has landed in a controversy after he claimed that he would "urinate on Brahmins". He has come under severe criticism from the community.

Kashyap's Apology

In an apparent apology letter, he said that no action is worth the threat the family has been receiving. "This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends, and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar," Kashyap said in his statement.

The filmmaker said that people could criticise him, but he requested that they spare his family. "I won't take back what I said. Abuse me all you want. My family didn't say anything. If you want an apology, here it is. Brahmins, spare the women. These values are imbibed in our scriptures, too, except for Manuwaad. Decide which Brahmin you are. Rest, here's an apology from me," he added.

Kashyap's 'Urinate On Brahmins' Comment

It all started after Kashyap responded to a criticism from a social media user who wrote: "Brahmins are your fathers. The more you mess with them, the more they will burn you."

Responding to the comment, Kashyap had said: "I would urinate on Brahmins, any problem?" The filmmaker had posted a screenshot of this exchange on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Satish Chandra Dubey has criticised the filmmaker calling him a "vile scumbag". "This vile scumbag (Anurag Kashyap) thinks he can spit filth on the entire Brahmin community and get away with it? If he doesn't issue a public apology immediately, I swear I'll make sure he finds no peace anywhere. Enough of this gutter mouth's hate, we won't stay silent," he added.

On the other hand, a police complaint has also been filed in Mumbai by an advocate at the Bombay High Court.

Background

The conversation started over Pratik Gandhi and Patralekha's 'Phule' film, which is based on social reformers Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule. Several scenes of the movie came under the Censor Board's scanner as the Brahmin community had raised objections to the film's content. The film will hit the screens on April 25.
