Controversy Surrounding the Film
The teaser for Kala Hiran was released on June 12, and since then, the film has become the subject of intense discussion. Viewers were quick to notice that the central character appears strikingly similar to Salman Khan, with comparable styling, mannerisms, and accessories.
The film is being promoted as one inspired by the infamous blackbuck hunting case, which has been linked to years of legal proceedings and strong reactions from the Bishnoi community.
"I Had Been Kept in the Dark": Govind Namdev
Govind Namdev, who was involved in the film's shoot, has expressed shock and disappointment after watching the teaser. According to him, the final version of the project is very different from what he was initially told.
Speaking to Amar Ujala, the actor said, "As soon as I watched the trailer, I was shaken to the core. I instantly understood that the project is completely different from what I had shot for. We were never told that a character resembling Salman Khan would be created and portrayed in this manner. The moment I saw the trailer, I felt I had been kept in the dark and used. There is a world of difference between what I was told and what has actually been made."
He Was Not Aware of the Title Kala Hiran
Namdev further revealed that the film was originally presented to him under a different title.
"I was told we were making a film called Sambhal*. At that time, I had absolutely no idea that the story would later take a completely different direction,"* he said.
Clarifying the extent of his involvement, the actor stated that his role was limited to courtroom scenes. He believed the film would focus only on legal proceedings that were already a matter of public record.
"I was informed that there was a long courtroom sequence, and that was all I had to do. It was also mentioned that nothing new was being added from our side and that we were merely presenting what had happened in court. I felt there was nothing wrong in depicting facts already on record, which is why I agreed to be part of it," he explained.
Actor Clarifies His Position
Namdev also addressed speculation surrounding the film and its connection with the Bishnoi community.
"I cannot consider any Bishnoi gang as my ideal. I cannot even think of such a thing. I believed I was only performing the courtroom portion. However, what has come to light now has made me uncomfortable as well," he said.
Salman Khan Takes Legal Action
Meanwhile, Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the release of Kala Hiran. In his petition, the actor has argued that the film appears to draw directly from allegations made against him and violates an existing court order protecting his personality rights.
The matter is expected to come up for hearing on June 19.
Until the legal battle unfolds, the controversy surrounding Kala Hiran continues to intensify. The teaser has raised fresh questions about the portrayal of real-life events in cinema and the ethical and legal boundaries of using the likeness of public figures without their consent.
