Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's Voice In Chokher Bali, Bengal Actor Sreela Majumdar Dies At 65

Actor Sreela Majumdar, popular for dubbing Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in 2003's Chokher Bali, a passion play, died on Sunday at the age of 65. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan starrer Chokher Bali play was a big hit and Sreela Majumdar garnered a lot of praise for her sweet and sensitive voiceover. The play was directed by Rituparno Ghosh.

Sreela was last seen in Kaushik Ganguly's Palan, a sequel to Ekdin Pratidin.

Bengali actor Sreela Majumdar did a lot of work with noted filmmakers namely Mrinal Sen, Shyam Benegal, and Prakash Jha. According to the reports, she died at her Kolkata residence. According to the Majumdar family, Sreela was diagnosed with cancer for the past three years.

Sreela Majumdar is survived by her husband and son.

Many eminent personalities expressed grief over the Bengali actor's death. Filmmaker Rituparna Sengupta, who shared the screen with Sreela in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan-starer play Chokher Bali, extended her condolences saying: "She (Sreela Majumdar) had delivered so many memorable performances under the direction of filmmakers like Mrinal Sen and others. She could have been utilized more by the industry."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also condoled Sreela Majumdar's death saying Sreela was a powerful actor. "It is a big loss for the Bengal film industry and we shall miss her stellar presence. My condolences to her family," Mamata Banerjee said.
