Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Seeks Court Protection Against Unauthorised Use Of Her Name And Images

She claims that multiple websites are using her name without permission to sell products, and AI-altered images of her are being shared online. The court is set to issue orders against these unauthorised uses of her likeness.

Justice Te Karia presided over the case, with senior advocate Sandeep Sethi representing Rai. Sethi pointed out that several websites, including aishwaryaworld.com, falsely claim to be the official site of Aishwarya Rai. He also mentioned an entity called 'Aishwarya Nation Wealth’ listing her as chairperson without her consent.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has sought legal action in the Delhi High Court to protect her name and image rights, claiming multiple websites and individuals are using her likeness without permission, including AI-altered images. Justice Te Karia is presiding over the case and is expected to issue orders against these unauthorized uses of her persona, with senior advocate Sandeep Sethi representing her case.

Unauthorised Use of Name and Images

Sethi informed the court about unknown individuals, referred to as John Does, who are collecting money by falsely associating with Rai. These entities circulate AI-generated images that do not belong to her. Some of these images are intimate and entirely fabricated.

"There can be no right in favour of using her images, likeness, or persona," Sethi argued. He highlighted how someone is profiting by exploiting her name and image for inappropriate purposes. "Her name and likeness (are being) used to satisfy someone's sexual desires," he added.

Previous Legal Actions

In 2023, the Bachchan family had previously sought legal action against misleading content on YouTube. Miscreants had spread false information about their daughter Aaradhaya's health, even claiming she was deceased in one video. They also alleged that altered photos were used in these videos.

Justice Karia addressed Google's counsel during the hearing, requesting the removal of infringing links listed in Rai's suit. He indicated that he would issue orders granting an injunction against such unauthorised use as objected by Rai.
