After FIR Over Kannada Remarks, Sonu Nigam Calls Kannadigas ‘Beautiful People’
Singer Sonu Nigam has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his viral video from a Bengaluru concert, where a few audience members heckled him for not singing a Kannada song. The incident sparked outrage online and led to an FIR being filed against the singer at Avalahalli Police Station for allegedly making provocative statements.

In an Instagram video shared on Friday, Nigam responded to the backlash, saying only a handful of miscreants disrupted the event. "Sirf chaar-panch gunday type the jo waha pe chilla rahe the," he said, adding that the rest of the crowd tried to stop them. Referring to an earlier incident in Pahalgam, he remarked that language wasn't a factor there when an incident occurred, subtly defending his choice of songs during the show.
Nigam was seen in the viral clip confronting the group, which some claimed hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas. Clarifying his stand, he urged people not to generalise or blame the entire Kannada community for the actions of a few.
"Every state has a few unruly people. You cannot let them hijack the experience for everyone else," he said. "If someone tries to sow hate in a place of love, they must be stopped immediately - or else we will all suffer later."
Emphasising his respect for the Kannada community, the singer added, "Kannadigas are beautiful people. Those boys glaring at me were just a few among thousands who were enjoying the music."
Police are continuing their inquiry into the complaint. Nigam, meanwhile, has called for calm and mutual respect across communities.
