Piyush, a digital marketing professional, had reportedly been unwell for some time. Confirming the news to The Times of India, Shubhangi said, "Your thoughtfulness during this time means a great deal to me. I request you to give me some time to talk about this." Though the two were no longer in contact, a close source shared that Shubhangi is grieving the loss. "She is mourning. She resumed shooting for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain on Sunday," the source added.

Best known for her role as Angoori Bhabi in the hit sitcom Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, Shubhangi had married Piyush in 2003 in Indore and were married for over two decades. They had a daughter, Ashi, in 2006. The couple legally finalized their divorce on February 5, 2025, having already lived separately for nearly a year prior. Ashi is currently pursuing her education in the United States.

In an earlier interview with the Bombay Times, Shubhangi candidly spoke about the emotional challenges of the separation. "It was painful. I was fully invested in the relationship. Over time, Piyush and I developed irreconcilable differences," she said. Reflecting on her life after the divorce, she added, "Now that I'm out of that marriage, I feel a sense of peace, as if a heavy burden has been lifted. I want to focus on my daughter and provide her with a happy and secure environment."
