Actor Allu Arjun Named In 'Pushpa 2' Stampede Chargesheet

Allu Arjun has been named as an accused in a chargesheet linked to a fatal stampede during the premier show of “Pushpa 2: The Rule”. Police have listed 24 people, and the document has now reached the 9th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at Nampally Court.

The chargesheet comes more than a year after the incident at Sandhya Theatre, RTC X Roads in Hyderabad, where a crowd surge during the premier on December 4, 2024, killed 35-year-old Revathi and left her minor son, Sreethej, bedridden with serious complications from oxygen deprivation.

Investigators state that the stampede followed gross negligence and poor planning by all parties involved. The report says basic safety norms were ignored despite knowing that a major crowd would gather to see Allu Arjun. Police say these failures directly led to the fatal crush.

The management and owners of Sandhya Theatre are accused of not arranging proper crowd control systems, even after being aware of the actor’s scheduled presence. Officials found there were no dedicated entry and exit routes for VIP visitors, which worsened congestion near the screening venue.

According to the chargesheet, theatre owners face action under Section 304-A of the IPC for causing death by negligence. Other sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have also been applied, covering causing hurt and placing members of the public in danger through unsafe conditions.

Allu Arjun is accused of going ahead with the visit despite what police describe as high-risk crowd conditions and inadequate coordination with local authorities. The list of 24 accused also includes Allu Arjun’s personal manager, staff members, and eight private bouncers present at the venue.

Investigators allege that the conduct of some private security personnel, along with certain gestures directed towards fans, triggered a sudden surge. Police say this movement through an already packed area intensified panic, which then turned the gathering at Sandhya Theatre into a deadly stampede.

Officers noted that permission for Allu Arjun’s public appearance at the premier had been specifically refused earlier because of safety concerns. Despite this, the actor’s visit went ahead, and police now argue that this decision, combined with poor theatre planning, created conditions for disaster.

Allu Arjun was briefly arrested in December 2024 and later released on bail, with investigators stating that Allu Arjun has been cooperating with inquiries. The filing of the chargesheet shifts the matter into the trial stage, while Revathi’s family continues to seek accountability and greater compensation for the ongoing treatment needs of injured minor Sreethej.
