Aamir Khan Faces Backlash For Operation Sindoor Post Ahead Of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' Trailer Launch

The trailer for Aamir Khan's much-anticipated film 'Sitaare Zameen Par' was unveiled on May 13.

Just hours prior to the trailer launch, the official X handle of Aamir Khan Productions shared a post paying tribute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor.

However, the timing of the post drew sharp criticism online, with many accusing the actor of exploiting the national sentiment to attract attention for his film.

One user commented, "Kucha jada jaldi nahi kar di post?" (Haven't you posted too early?)

A further post read, "Dekho koi movie ka announcement bhi ata hoga... Ye paise k liye bolte h lekin dil m Turkey and Pakistan h."

One more user remarked, "Bahut jldi yaad aayi? Movie release ki date ko 10-20 saal aage bda do, fayde m rhoge. Wrna public itna pelegi k jaisi laal singh ki chaddi pili hue thi."

The message that triggered the backlash read: "Salute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor. Heartfelt gratitude to our armed forces for their courage, bravery, and unwavering commitment to the security of our nation. Thank you to the Honourable Prime Minister for his leadership and determination. Jai Hind."

The post was widely perceived as opportunistic, given that Aamir Khan had remained silent during the initial days following the tragic events that led to Operation Sindoor.

To recap, on April 22, 26 civilians - primarily tourists - were killed in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in what became one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in recent times. In retaliation, the Indian armed forces launched a targeted operation against terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on 7 May, under the codename Operation Sindoor.

While many figures in Bollywood had earlier voiced support for India's action, Aamir Khan had notably refrained from commenting - a silence that made the timing of his later post all the more controversial.

'Sitaare Zameen Par' is scheduled to release in cinemas this June.
