Ever since the news of K Annamalai stepping down as the Tamil Nadu BJP President was out, speculations have been doing rounds that he will be made a Union Minister.

It was said that the party would reward his good work, although he was reportedly asked to step down as the TN BJP Chief as the BJP went into an alliance with the AIADMK ahead of the 2026 state elections in Tamil Nadu.

On Friday, Amit Shah met the press in Chennai as the BJP sealed an alliance with the AIADMK. At a press conference, a reporter asked the Union Minister whether Annamalai would be made a Union Minister.

Responding to the question, Shah said, "Leave some decision to party.. we will manage. Please don't worry too much about my party; we will do well,"

The AIADMK had broken the ties with the BJP after a fallout with K Annamalai in 2023. The TN BJP's comments on Annadurai and J Jayalalithaa had rubbed the Dravidian major the wrong way.

Going by the reports, the AIADMK, during the recent meeting, demanded the BJP central leadership to reduce IPS officer-turned-politician's role in order to return to the NDA alliance.

However, Amit Shah clarified that the AIADMK has not laid any condition. On another specific question about the change in the leadership in the Tamil Nadu BJP, the Union Minister said that Annamalai was sitting next to him at the press meet. "If he was not the party chief, he would not be sitting next to me," Shah added.

AIADMK-BJP To Fight TN Elections Together

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that the BJP and the AIADMK will fight together in the next assembly polls in Tamil Nadu. Thus the Dravidian major has returned to the NDA after breaking ties in 2023.

Amit Shah said that the elections will be fought under the leadership of PM Modi on a national level and under the leadership of AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the state level.

When asked whether the BJP members will join the EPS cabinet if came to power, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Seat distribution and the distribution of ministries after the government is formed, both will be decided later... In Tamil Nadu, the DMK is bringing up issues like Sanatan Dharma and three-language policy to divert the attention from real issues..."
