What Role Did Thalapathy Vijay Play In Master? Annamalai Attacks TVK Chief On TASMAC Allegations

Tamil Nadu BJP Chief K Annamalai has come down heavily on actor and politician Vijay over his response to corruption allegations in TASMAC, the state-run liquor business.

He questioned Vijay's moral stance, pointing out that the actor smokes and drinks on-screen. Referring to Vijay's role in Master, Annamalai asked, "What right does he have to speak about these issues after portraying such characters? What role did Vijay play in Master?"

In the hit Tamil movie Master, Vijay had enacted the character of a drunkard professor.

Annamalai also took a swipe at Vijay's recent Iftar gathering. Mocking the actor's political positioning, he remarked, "Just put up a banner claiming to support minorities. If attending an Iftar is enough, I too can do it. But this kind of political gimmickry should have its limits."

Work From Home Politics

Further targeting Vijay's political involvement through his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Annamalai dismissed it as "work-from-home politics." He criticized TVK for issuing statements on the TASMAC issue without actively engaging in ground-level action. "They're behaving like school kids, running politics from film sets. If they are serious, they should step onto the field instead of merely making statements," he said.

He also accused TVK of being a covert ally of the ruling DMK, claiming the party was a secret project designed to help DMK retain power. "Vijay, why did you cross the line? If you speak, I also know how to respond. Don't just sit and type reports from your couch-come to the field and engage in real politics," Annamalai challenged.

TVK's Allegations

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) General Secretary N. Anand had earlier criticized the BJP's protest against the alleged TASMAC liquor scam, dismissing it as mere "drama." He questioned why the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had not taken immediate action if the scam was real, instead of allowing a political protest to steal the spotlight.

Anand also accused the BJP and DMK of playing a double game-publicly opposing each other while secretly working together. "If the Union government has the power to act, why resort to a staged protest?" he asked, referring to the BJP-led demonstration that saw leaders like K. Annamalai, Tamilisai Soundararajan, and Vinoj P. Selvam detained by the police.
