What Is Tamil Nadu's Ungaludan Stalin Initiative, Launched Ahead of Polls?
Chief Minister M K Stalin is set to launch a significant initiative named 'Ungaludan Stalin' (Stalin with you) from Chidambaram in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
What Is the Ungaludan Stalin Initiative?
This programme aims to address public grievances and deliver government services directly to people's doorsteps through 10,000 special camps across the state as Tamil Nadu prepares for the 2026 assembly elections.

These camps will operate from July 15 to November, covering both rural and urban areas. In urban centres, 3,768 camps will be held, while rural areas will see 6,232 camps. Urban areas will offer 43 services from 13 departments, whereas rural regions will provide 46 services from 15 departments. All applications received at these camps are expected to be processed within a span of 45 days.
Volunteers and Public Awareness
Around one lakh trained volunteers have begun visiting households to raise awareness about this initiative. Their role includes informing residents about the nearest camp locations and explaining the various government services available. Volunteers also guide people on eligibility criteria and necessary documents for availing these services. Booklets containing detailed information have been distributed for broader outreach.
The programme also invites eligible women who missed out on the 'Kalaignar Urimai Thogai’ scheme—offering Rs 1,000 for women homemakers—to submit their applications at these camps. This ensures that more women can benefit from the scheme by accessing application forms readily available at the camps.
Operational Details and Criticism
P Amudha, Special Officer for Various Public Grievances Redressal Schemes and Additional Chief Secretary, told the reporters that each camp would operate four days a week, catering to around 10,000 people. A help centre with 100 personnel has been established with the contact number 1100 to assist individuals seeking guidance or support regarding the programme.
AIADMK Slams DMK Govt
However, the opposition AIADMK has criticised this initiative as a strategy by the ruling DMK party to gather voter information ahead of the 2026 assembly election. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami alleged that it is an "election drama" aimed at voter outreach under the guise of receiving petitions.
"Government officials are distributing forms for this scheme to every household," Palaniswami claimed. "The phone numbers collected are handed over to DMK's IT Wing for use during polling."
