Mudhalvar Marundhagam Pharmacies - How To Apply: The Tamil Nadu government has launched Mudhalvar Marundhagam pharmacies to provide essential medicines at highly subsidized rates across the state. This initiative aims to make expensive medicines more accessible while also creating employment for 1,500 pharmacists holding B.Pharm and D.Pharm degrees.
These pharmacies will offer:

- 120 generic medicines
- 80 branded medicines
- 25 Indian traditional medicines
- 96 OTC (over-the-counter) medicines
Additionally, the scheme ensures that medicines in high demand will be promptly procured and stocked. Discounts on medicines will go up to 75%, significantly reducing the financial burden on people relying on long-term medications.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized that these pharmacies will prevent people from having to pay exorbitant prices for essential medicines.
To support entrepreneurs and cooperative societies in setting up these pharmacies, the government is providing financial assistance:
Entrepreneurs - ₹3 lakh subsidy
Cooperative societies - ₹2 lakh subsidy
Each pharmacy has been stocked with a three-month supply of medicines, and warehouses have been set up in all 38 districts to ensure smooth distribution.
How to Obtain a Drug License in Tamil Nadu?
For Tamil Nadu Drug License
Pre-requisites:
- Retail: Minimum 10 sq. m area
- Wholesale: Minimum 10 sq. m area
- Combined Retail & Wholesale: 15 sq. m area
- Mandatory storage facilities - racks, refrigerator, air conditioning
Required Documents:
- Application Forms (Form 19, 20, 21 as applicable)
- Cover letter to the Assistant Director of Drugs Control
- Authorization document (signed by authorized signatory)
- Declaration form (signed by applicant/pharmacist)
- Premises details (ownership/rental agreement, signed floor plan)
- Pharmacist's details (registration certificate, educational qualifications, experience)
- Applicant details (company/firm constitution, photos, ID proof, tenancy affidavit)
- Storage accommodation details
For change of premises or ownership, additional documents such as:
- Original license
- Sale deed / reconstitution documents
- Amalgamation court order & board resolution (for companies)
- Purchase bills & installation certificate for storage facilities
