Ashwin Was Humiliated: His Father Ravichandran's Big Claim
Ravichandran, father of off-spinner R Ashwin, has said that "humiliation" might be the reason why his son decided to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket midway during the Australia tour.
Was R Ashwin Humiliated?

"I too came to know last minute, actually," CNN News18 quoted him as saying. He added, "What was going on in his mind I don't know. He just announced. I too accepted it with full pleasure. I did not have any feeling at all for that. But the way he gave his retirement, one part I was very happy, another part not happy because he should have continued."
Although he cannot say the exact reason why Ashwin decided to hung his boots midway during the Australia tour, Ravichandran said that not being part of playing XI constantly might have triggered him to call it a day.
"(Retiring) is his (Ashwin's) wish and desire, I cannot interfere in that, but the way in which he gave that, there could be many reasons. Only Ashwin knows, maybe humiliation," he continued.
Ashwin's Record:
- Tests: 537 wickets in 106 matches, second only to Anil Kumble (619).
- ODIs: 156 wickets in 116 games.
- T20Is: 72 wickets in 65 outings.
- ICC Trophies: Member of the 2011 World Cup and 2013 Champions Trophy-winning squads.
Ashwin To Play IPL
Ravichandran, who himself was a club level fast bowler, claimed that the retirement was in Ashwin's mind due to constant "humiliation" but the sudden announcement came as a shock to the family.
"Definitely, no doubt about it (being emotional for the famiky), because he was on the field for 14-15 years. The sudden change - retirement - gave us really kind of a shock. At the same time, we were expecting it because humiliation was going on. How long he can tolerate all those things? Probably, he would have decided on his own," Ravichandran stated.
Meanwhile, Ashwin has returned to Chennai from Australia. Speaking to reporters earlier in the day, the spinner said that he will play the IPL. He stated, "...I am going to play for CSK and don't be surprised if I try and aspire to play for as long as I can. I don't think Ashwin the cricketer is done, I think Ashwin the Indian cricketer has probably called it time. That's it."
