Vegetable Price In Chennai: What's Costlier, What's Cheaper Today In Tamil Nadu's Capital

Vegetable prices at Chennai's Koyambedu wholesale market have seen a notable decrease on January 15, 2025, following a rise before the Pongal festival. Garlic, which was previously priced at Rs 280 per kilogram, is now available for Rs 250 per kilogram, reflecting a Rs 30 reduction, as per a report in DT Next.

Price Fluctuations of Drumsticks and Beans

Drumstick prices have been inconsistent over recent months. On January 13, they were sold at Rs 120 per kilogram but are now priced at Rs 90 per kilogram, showing a Rs 30 drop. Previously, drumsticks were sold for Rs 150 on January 12, Rs 120 on January 10, and just Rs 70 on January 9.

Beans have also become more affordable. They were priced at Rs 70 per kilogram on January 13 but are now available for Rs 40 per kilogram, marking a decrease of Rs 30.

Lemons and Green Chilies Price Reduction

Lemons saw a price cut from Rs 70 per kilogram on Bhogi day (January 13) to Rs 50 today. This represents a reduction of Rs 20. Similarly, green chilies experienced a price drop from Rs 50 to Rs 35 per kilogram since January 13.

Other Vegetables Experience Price Drop

A variety of other vegetables have also seen price reductions of Rs 10. As of January 15, peas are being sold at Rs 50 per kilogram, raw mangoes at Rs 60 per kilogram, carrots at the same price, beetroot for Rs 50 per kilogram, and snake gourd is available for just Rs 30 per kilogram.

The recent decline in vegetable prices offers some relief to consumers after the pre-Pongal surge. The market dynamics continue to fluctuate with varying demand and supply factors influencing these changes.
