Thalapathy Vijay Woos Muslims As TVK Chief Set To Host Iftar Party Today In Chennai

In his first Muslim-outreach event, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and popular actor Vijay is set to attend an Iftar gathering organized by his party at the YMCA grounds in Royapettah, Chennai, on Friday evening. The event will see Vijay personally breaking the fast and hosting a feast for the Muslim community.

3000 Muslims Expected At Vijay's Iftar Event

Preparations have been made to accommodate nearly 3,000 attendees, with imams from 15 local mosques invited to participate. Security arrangements have also been reviewed to ensure a smooth event.

Vijay To Host Iftar Party Today

This comes just days after Vijay voiced his concerns about the potential impact of the delimitation exercise on southern states. He argued that basing parliamentary constituency boundaries solely on population could reduce representation for states like Tamil Nadu in the Lok Sabha. Vijay emphasized that southern states have made significant strides in population control through investments in education, healthcare, and family planning, and penalizing them with fewer seats would be unfair.

The holy month of Ramadan, which began on March 2, is a time of fasting, prayer, and reflection for the Muslim community. Political parties often organize Iftar events to promote unity and brotherhood. In line with this tradition, TVK has arranged today's Iftar program, which will run from 6:20 pm to 7:20 pm. Vijay will observe a full day of fasting, offer prayers according to Islamic customs, and partake in the Iftar meal alongside attendees, according to a report in Oneindia Tamil.

Who All Will Attend The Iftar Event?

The event has been meticulously planned, with TVK General Secretary Anand and Election Campaign Management General Secretary Adhav Arjunan overseeing the arrangements. Around 3,000 people are expected to attend, and a seating plan has been prepared, including a designated spot for Vijay. Mosque administrators from Royapettah and Thiruvallikeni, as well as representatives from smaller political groups, have also been invited.

This Iftar event is part of Vijay's broader political outreach as he gears up for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Recently, poll strategist Prashanth Kishor revealed that Vijay's TVK plans to contest the elections independently, without forming an alliance with the AIADMK.

Vijay, who is set to retire from films after his upcoming movie Jana Nayagan, has been increasingly active in politics, addressing key issues like delimitation and advocating for equitable representation for southern states. His statement on delimitation has resonated with many, aligning with the DMK's criticism of the central government's approach.
