Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran jointly inaugurated the groundwork for a new state-of-the-art vehicle manufacturing facility in Ranipet district on Saturday.
This significant investment of $1 billion (approximately Rs 9,000 crore) by the Tata Group will pave the way for the establishment of a luxury vehicle manufacturing unit, expected to create 5,000 jobs.

The first look of the plant has hit the internet. The pictures have gone viral.
This plant marks the first time that Tata Motors, now overseeing luxury brands like Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), is building a manufacturing unit from scratch in India. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Tamil Nadu ministers Duraimurugan and TRB Rajaa, along with key executives from the Tata Group and JLR.
The facility is projected to achieve an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles. The manufacturing process will begin in phases, with plans to reach full capacity over the next 5 to 7 years.
Speaking at the event, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the significance of Tamil Nadu's industrial growth. "Tamil Nadu is a leading industrial state with progressive policies and an established automotive hub, supported by a skilled and talented workforce. Several Tata Group companies have flourished here. This new facility will incorporate cutting-edge technology and world-class sustainability practices, with a strong focus on women's empowerment in our workforce."
The Tata Motors Group also emphasized that the plant will use 100% renewable energy to produce next-generation vehicles for both Indian and global markets. The Panapakkam plant in Ranipet district will manufacture cars and SUVs for both Tata Motors and JLR, positioning itself as an internationally benchmarked facility to meet market demands.
In addition to bolstering employment, the plant is expected to enhance the skills of the local workforce and contribute to Tamil Nadu's standing as a global automotive hub.
