Tata Strengthens Hosur Hub: 20,000 New Jobs At iPhone Plant Near Bengaluru
In a major development for Hosur, Tata Electronics is set to double its workforce at its iPhone assembly plant, employing over 40,000 people, according to Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran. This expansion is part of the company's growing footprint in the industrial hub of Hosur, which already houses units of TVS, Titan, Ashok Leyland, and several other major firms. Located just an hour from Bengaluru, Hosur has emerged as a key center for industrial activity.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for a Rs 9,000 crore Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) manufacturing unit in Panapakkam, Chandrasekaran highlighted Tata Group's substantial presence in Tamil Nadu.

Across companies like TCS, Titan, Tata Chemicals, Tata Power, IHCL, and retail businesses, Tata has more than 1,50,000 direct employees in the state. The new iPhone assembly plant alone currently employs 20,000 workers, over 15,000 of whom are women, and plans are underway to double that figure in the coming year.
Chandrasekaran stated that this new Tata Motors and JLR facility would not only create 5,000 direct jobs but also foster an ecosystem that will generate many more employment opportunities in the region.
In recent years, Tata Group has invested significantly in Tamil Nadu, with major manufacturing units such as Tata Power, Tata Electronics, and Tata Motors. Additionally, the group has allocated Rs 2,200 crore towards industrial training institutes in the state to upskill local youth.
Meanwhile, a fire broke out at a chemical godown of the electronics component factory of Tata Electronics on Saturday. "The incident occurred at a chemical godown located on the campus at about 6 am. Seven fire tenders were pressed into service. There has been no casualty nor injury to anyone," a senior fire and rescue service official at the Hosur Fire Station told PTI.
On the other hand, The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), known for its Taj brand, is launching two greenfield projects in Tamil Nadu. The company plans to develop a 150-room Vivanta and a 200-room Ginger hotel on a 3-acre plot in Hosur. The Vivanta will offer modern décor, an all-day dining restaurant, a bar, a gym, a swimming pool, and banquet facilities to host business events, reflecting the growing industrial and commercial vibrancy of Hosur.
