Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Which Dist Receive Highest Rains In 24 Hours & What About Chennai?
Close to 20 districts in Tamil Nadu witnessed heavy rains in the last 24 hours, the data released by the Regional Meterological Centre said on Wednesday morning.
Nagapattinam recorded the highest rainfall at 164 mm, followed by Tiruvarur (96 mm), Cuddalore (88 mm), Mayiladuthurai (80.5 mm), Chennai (77.5 mm), Thanjavur (77 mm), Villupuram (78 mm), and Chengalpattu (75 mm) in the last 24 hours.
Cyclonic Storm Alert

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that a deep depression over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, moving at 10 kmph, is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on November 27. The system is positioned approximately 190 km southeast of Trincomalee and 670 km south-southeast of Chennai. It is expected to move north-northwestwards, skirting the Sri Lankan coast before approaching the Tamil Nadu coastline over the next two days.

The RMC has issued weather alerts for multiple districts:
Red Alert (Extremely Heavy Rainfall):
- November 26: Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Karaikal.
- November 27: Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal.
Orange Alert (Heavy Rainfall):
- November 26: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Puducherry.
- November 27: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukkottai, and Puducherry.
Yellow Alert (Moderate Rainfall):
- November 26: Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, and Thoothukudi.
- November 27: Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Sivaganga, and Ramanathapuram.
Holiday For Schools
In light of the ongoing heavy rainfall, schools in affected regions have been declared closed. Chennai's flight services have also been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions.
Authorities are advising residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay updated on weather developments. Emergency services are on high alert to handle any eventualities.
