Tamil Nadu Weather Update: RMC Warns of Heavy Rain in 11 Districts

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert for 11 districts in Tamil Nadu due to the likelihood of heavy rainfall.

According to the daily weather bulletin, heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Karur, Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Dindigul and Theni districts.

Meteorologists said an upper air cyclonic circulation is prevailing over the North Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining areas at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Another upper air cyclonic circulation, which was earlier located over the west-central Bay of Bengal, has now shifted over the east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.

Meanwhile, the upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining areas between 3.1 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level continues to persist.

In temperature observations recorded on Tuesday, Vellore registered the highest maximum temperature in Tamil Nadu at 41.5 degrees Celsius. Dharmapuri recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 23 degrees Celsius, while Uthagamandalam recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the hill regions at 13.2 degrees Celsius.

Chennai Forecast

For Chennai and its neighbourhood, the weather department has forecast partly cloudy skies for both May 27 and May 28.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 39 to 40 degrees Celsius on May 27 and rise slightly to 40 to 41 degrees Celsius on May 28. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 29 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in the city over the next two days.
