Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Puduchatram Gets 16 CMS Rain; Over 20 Dists Expected To Get Heavy Rains In 24 Hours
The heavy rains that have lashed many districts across Tamil Nadu are expected to continue until Friday, according to the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD).
The RMD has issued an orange alert for four districts-Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, and Dindigul-today, indicating extremely severe weather with the potential to disrupt commutes, including road and rail closures, and cause power supply interruptions. A yellow alert has been issued for 20 districts: Nilgiris, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Pudukkottai, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, and the Karaikal area, indicating severely bad weather over several days, with the potential to disrupt daily activities.

Specifically, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and Kanyakumari districts have been issued an orange alert for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. A yellow alert has been given to the following districts for tomorrow: Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Thoothukudi.
On Thursday, the yellow alert extends to Nilgiris, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Pudukkottai, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, and Karaikal.
On Friday, a yellow alert has been issued for Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, and Thoothukudi districts.
Heavy Rains
Over the last 24 hours, Puduchatram in Namakkal district experienced the highest rainfall, totaling 16 cms. Following closely behind, Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur district recorded 14 cms, with Karur and Tiruchirappalli Airport in Thiruchirappalli district each receiving 12 cms.
Chinnakalar in Coimbatore district and Samayapuram in Thiruchirappalli district saw 12 cms, while Namakkal in Namakkal district and Sendamangalam in Namakkal district received 11 cms.
Rasipuram in Namakkal district, Viralimalai in Pudukkottai district, Panchapatti in Karur district, and Tondi in Ramanathapuram district all registered 10 cms of rainfall.
Chennai Weather
The Regional Meteorological Department (RMD) forecasts that Chennai's sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain is expected in some areas. The maximum temperature is likely to be between 35-36°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be between 27-28°C.
