Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Prepare For Rainy Weekend
The Nilgiris experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, with Avalanche recording the highest amount at 20 cm.
This was followed by Upper Bhavani and Vint Worth Estate, both in The Nilgiris district, which received 10 cm each. Chinnakalar in Coimbatore district, along with the Taluk Office Pandalur and Kunda Bridge in The Nilgiris, each received 7 cm of rain.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has predicted heavy rains for a few places in Tamil Nadu over the weekend. "Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning at one or two places is likely to occur over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area. Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris district and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district," the RMC said in its daily bulletin.
The weather agencu said that the sky in Chennai is expected to be partly cloudy. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is likely to occur in some areas in 48 hours. The maximum temperature is expected to range between 35-36°C, while the minimum temperature is likely to be between 27-28°C.
In the last 24 hours, Parangipettai recorded the highest maximum temperature at 38.0°C, while Erode experienced the lowest minimum temperature at 19.4°C.
South Chennai areas such as Shollinganallur, Padur, Navalur, Siruseri, suburbs Kelambakkam, Mambakkam, Maraimalai Nagar, Singaperumal Kovil, Potheri, Mahindra City, Chengalpet, Guduvanchery, Kovalam, Mamallapuram, Urapakkam all in path of rains.
Meanwhile, the Cauvery Delta Farmers' Federation has demanded Tamil Nadu government to order for the early release of water from the Mettur dam for agricultural purposes. The development comes after Karnataka started releasing 1 lakh cusecs of water daily from major dams due to heavy rains in Cauvery catchment areas.
Hence, the water level in Mettur dam has been rising significantly and likely to reach its full capacity in the next couple of days.
