Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Cyclone To Reduce Rain, Chennai May Cross 40°C By May End
A cyclone forming off the coast is expected to reduce rainfall across Tamil Nadu from May 27-28, said a weather interpreter.
R Pradeep John, known as Tamil Nadu Weatherman, who gives regular updates about Tamil Nadu weather, said that Kanyakumari district will remain an exception, with continued rains. Other southern districts like Madurai, Tirunelveli (Nellai), Valparai, and Dindigul, especially those near hills, will also experience rainfall.

In contrast, North India is set to face a severe heatwave, with temperatures in some parts of Rajasthan predicted to exceed 50°C in the coming days, he noted.
Tamil Nadu will also experience a heatwave, particularly in six districts near Andhra Pradesh: Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Ranipet, and Vellore.
He further added that Chennai City (Nungambakkam) has not yet breached 40°C this May but is expected to do so in the final days of the month.
RMC's Heavy Rain Alert
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain for Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai and Virudhunagar districts today and Dindigul, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts for tomorrow.
It has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy at isolated places over the Nilgiris Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts.
As far as the Chennai weather is concerned, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast that Chennai's sky will likely be partly cloudy for today. Some areas may experience light rain and the maximum temperature is expected to range between 36-37°C, while the minimum temperature will be around 28°C, it said in a statement.
Nalumukku Records Highest Rainfall
Heavy rains have lashed parts of Tamil Nadu in the last one week, thereby giving respite to the people from the heatwave.
Nalumukku in Tirunelveli recorded the highest rainfall with 10 cm. This was followed by Oothu (Tirunelveli) and Pechiparai (Kanniyakumari), each recording 8 cm. Kinnakorai (The Nilgiris) and Kakkachi (Tirunelveli) both recorded 7 cm of rainfall. Upper Bhavani (The Nilgiris), Tindivanam (Villupuram), and Adayamadai (Kanniyakumari) each recorded 6 cm of rainfall on Thursday.
