Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Chennai Boils After Rains As Temperature Soars To 41.3°C
Chennai recorded the highest temperature among the districts in Tamil Nadu, reaching 41.3°C on Wednesday. This followed a period of rain that had cooled the city in the previous week, according to data from the Regional Meteorological Centre.
In the 24-hour period ending at 08:30 today, maximum temperatures in Tamil Nadu were 2-3°C higher than usual in some areas and near normal elsewhere, with Puducherry and Karaikal experiencing typical temperatures.

Chennai Airport recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.3°C. In North Interior Tamil Nadu, temperatures ranged from 32-41°C, while South Interior Tamil Nadu saw temperatures between 30-38°C. Puducherry recorded 38°C, Karaikal recorded 37°C, and hilly areas experienced temperatures between 23°C to 25°C.
Chennai (NBK) observed significantly higher than normal maximum temperatures (NBK: 41.1°C, +3.1°C), while Chennai (MBK) recorded above normal maximum temperatures (MBK: 41.3°C, +2.4°C).
Apart from Chennai, Vellore (40.2) and Tiruthani (40.2) touched 40°C on Tuesday.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai's sky condition is expected to be partly cloudy for the next 48 hours. The maximum temperature is predicted to reach around 41°C, while the minimum temperature is anticipated to range between 30-31°C.
Meanwhile, the weather agency has issued a yellow alert for several regions on June 1 and 2.
A statement from the RMC said, "Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Salem, Erode, Nilgiris, Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalliand Namakkal districts."
Significant rainfall amounts, measured in centimeters, were reported in various locations:
- Chinnakalar (Coimbatore district): 5 cm
- Valparai Taluk Office (Coimbatore district), Sholayar (Coimbatore district), Cincona (Coimbatore district): 4 cm each
- Valparai PAP (Coimbatore district): 3 cm
- Valparai PTO (Coimbatore district), UPASI Tea Research Foundation AWS (Coimbatore district), Sivalogam (Chittar II) (Kanniyakumari district): 2 cm each
- Chittar-I (Kanniyakumari district), Mullanginavillai (Kanniyakumari district), Perunchani Dam (Kanniyakumari district), Puthan Dam (Kanniyakumari district): 1 cm each.
