Tamil Nadu Weather Update: 3 Districts Sizzles At Over 40.0°C; Check Rain Alert For These Places
Three districts in Tamil Nadu registered over 40.0°C on Sunday with Erode reporting the highest at 40.8°C, the data from the Regional Meteorological Department shows.
Over the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am today, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu were generally within normal ranges, with some areas experiencing slightly above normal temperatures.

Isolated pockets in the plains of interior Tamil Nadu saw significantly higher temperatures, while coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal experienced normal temperatures.
The highest maximum temperature was recorded in Erode at 40.8°C (+2.4°C), followed by Karur Paramathi at 40.5°C (+3.8°C) and Vellore at 40.2°C (+2.6°C).
Plains in the rest of interior Tamil Nadu recorded temperatures ranging from 36°C to 41°C. Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal saw temperatures between 34°C to 36°C, while hilly areas experienced temperatures between 22°C to 27°C.
In Chennai, maximum temperatures were within the normal range, with readings of 37.6°C at MBK (-0.8°C) and 35.8°C at NBK (-1.6°C).
Rain Alert
According to the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD), Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to experience light to moderate rain at a few locations. Additionally, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in the region.
The RMD said, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Ghat areas of Coimbatore and Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts.
As per the Regional Meteorological Department (RMD), the sky condition is expected to be partly cloudy. Light rain is anticipated in some areas. The maximum temperature is likely to range between 35-36°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 28-29°C.
As per the weather enthusiast Raja Ramasamy, there is a south-to-north movement of clouds. He indicates that unless winds shift to easterly directions, not much rain is anticipated in Chennai.
"Equatorial winds are strengthening and SW wind will pick up in a week over the bay, early monsoon onset is possible over Kerala once the Arabian Sea branch picks up," he added.
